Big Thief Brings Expanded Band Featuring Laraaji For ‘Grandmother’ Performance On ‘Fallon’

The performance marked 82-year-old Laraaji’s television debut.

Big Thief performed their song “Grandmother” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The trio expanded into a 12-piece band that included ambient music legend Laraaji making his television debut at age 82.

“Grandmother” appeared on Big Thief’s recently released album, Double Infinity. The Tonight Show appearance featured the core trio of Adrianne Lenker, Buck Meek, and James Krivchenia, joined by Laraaji and others who also contributed to the album — Adam Brisbin, Michael Buishas, Hannah Cohen, June McDoom, Caleb Michel, Jon Nellen and Alena Spanger.
