Watch Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker Cover Lucinda Williams’ ‘Minneapolis’

Big Thief closed their summer tour last night with a show at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles. The concert came one night after the band concluded a run featuring special guest Lucinda Williams who sat-in with Big Thief at The Greek Berkeley on Tuesday. Frontwoman Adrianne Lenker still had the famed singer-songwriter on her mind on Wednesday as she played one of Lucinda Williams’ songs at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Adrianne Lenker, who grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis, performed a solo rendition of Williams’ “Minneapolis” early on during Big Thief’s tour closer. “I got to sing her this song last night,” Lenker told the crowd about the cut from Lucinda’s 2003 album, World Without Tears. “It’s one of her songs. I’m going to sing it again for you because I’m really feeling it.”

Lucinda Williams joined Big Thief for “People Talkin'” and “Metal Firecracker” in Berkeley on Tuesday before Lenker played “Minneapolis” for her. Later in the night at The Berkeley Greek, Lucinda Williams’ backing band members violinist Stuart Mathis and pedal steel guitarist Doug Pettibone augmented Big Thief on originals “Not,” “Vampire Empire” and “Spud Infinity.”

Big Thief focused the rest of the night on their Grammy-nominated 2022 album, Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You. Seven cuts from the quartet’s latest LP were played at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. The setlist also featured a song each off Masterpiece, Two Hands and U.F.O.F. as well as a smattering of unreleased material.
