Big Something Bringing Back The Big What? Festival In 2024 At ‘New’ Location

Big Something‘s The Big What? music and camping festival returns August 22 – 24, 2024 after a one-year hiatus. The 10th anniversary edition will be held at Shakori Hills in Pittsboro, North Carolina, a site in the band’s home state that last hosted the event in 2019.

Organizers promise a “spectacular selection of touring bands and artists performing across multiple unique stages over three days,” when the full lineup is announced in the “coming weeks.” Big Something will deliver multiple sets throughout the weekend.

The band will have a different look than at the last Big What? in 2022 at Pop’s Farm as co-founding bassist Doug Marshall and keyboardist Josh Kagel stepped away from Big Something in 2023. Matt Laird took over on bass, while Ross Bogan (Doom Flamingo) and Julian Sizemore (The Mantras) are splitting duties on keys in 2024.

“We are so thrilled to finally reunite with the whatfam once again and bring The Big What? back to North Carolina,” noted Big Something frontman Nick MacDaniels. “This event has been a huge part of our story since we first started as a band and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate our 10th year this August. We’re going to do our best to make it the most special, unique and magical Big What experience yet.” MacDaniels, Laird and Bogan/Sizemore are joined in Big Something by Casey Cranford on saxophone and EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument), Jesse Hensley on lead guitar and Ben Vinograd on drums.
