Ben Katzman Shares ‘Fire Sprite’ Single Inspired By His Time On ‘Survivor’

Survivor Season 46 finalist Ben Katzman charmed viewers with his passion for the game and music as well as he constant references to shredding and the vibe. While Katzman didn’t take home the grand prize last night, the Miami-based musician used his time on the reality television program as the muse for a new single entitled “Fire Sprite” that was released today.

The multi-talented Katzman played bass and guitar as a member of experimental rock band Guerilla Toss for a spell in the mid-2010s, formed his own group DeGreaser and headed up the label BUFU Records. Ben recently gathered with Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio, Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus and former Guerilla Toss bandmate Kassie Carlson as he shared a picture from the hang along with the caption “NÜ SUPER GROUP OR SURVIVOR ALLIANCE?!”

Ben Katzman may have made it all the way to the end of the latest season of Survivor but he had his struggles. The 31-year-old faced anxiety and night terrors that prevented him from sleeping for more than two hours at a time over the course of his experience. Contestants sleep around a fire and despite its warmth the fear Ben faced kept him shivering and cold. Katzman channeled the experience into “Fire Sprite,” a hard-hitting rocker featuring guest vocals from L.A.-based songstress GracieHorse.

“‘Fire Sprite’ really brings me back to that moment where I felt shrouded in complete darkness. A moment where panic kicked in, and fear took over every bone of my body. Feeling unsure which way to look, which way to feel, which way to be,” Katzman explained in a press release. “It’s in those moments of fear and loneliness that you might find a friend, a flame to wash away that darkness… and you might even find that strength within to just keep going. This song is about feeling the sparks from the embers, lighting a fire from within.”
