Ben Gibbard recently performed an audience requests set at Seattle-based radio station KEXP. Officially video footage of the Death Cab for Cutie frontman’s performance on September 12 has been shared by the independent broadcaster.
Gibbard kicked off the session with “Your Hurricane” and “60 & Punk” from the DCFC album Thank You For Today that came out earlier this year. Picking requests from a hat, “Grapevine Fires” off Narrow Stairs was the first audience choice. Moving between piano and acoustic guitar, several song from the 2005 Death Cab album Plans were chosen from the hat, including “Brothers on a Hotel Bed,” “What Sarah Said,” “Soul Meets Body,” “Marching Birds Of Manhattan,” “Your Heart Is an Empty Room” and “Crooked Teeth.” He also played “405” from the 2000 album We Have The Facts And Are Voting Yes.
Gibbard, who passed out vinyl copies of Thank You For Today to audience members who selected songs he couldn’t remember how to play, also performed The Postal Service’s “Such Great Heights” and “Recycled Air.” Watch the complete session hosted by Cheryl Waters below:
