Bela Fleck Joins Dave Matthews Band For ‘Friend Of The Devil’ In 2015

Last summer while the core four members of the Grateful Dead were performing together at the Fare Thee Well concerts in Chicago, Dave Matthews Band played two nights at Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, New York. At various points throughout the show that took place one year ago today, frequent collaborator Bela Fleck sat-in on banjo, including the DMB’s debut cover of the Dead’s “Friend Of The Devil.”

Fleck’s sit-in came midway through the acoustic opening portion of the the ensemble’s July 4, 2015 show at SPAC. Videographer ChesterCopperpot5 posted a multi-cam video of “Friend Of The Devil” compiling several different audience-shot clips and featuring audio recorded by taper Chris Drews.
