Back in 2013, Random House revealed that it inked a deal with Mike D and Ad-Rock of Beastie Boys to write a memoir about the influential hip-hop act. The New York Times reported that the book would be a loosely structured oral history full of a, “pastiche of voices, images, irreverent humor and pop-culture reference points,” and would be released in the fall of 2015.

While the 2015 date has come and gone without much news about if and when the book would finally hit shelves, Mike D recently shared an update on the long-gestating project. During an appearance on Apple Music’s Beats 1 radio show Mike D revealed that the as-yet-untitled book, which is to be edited by the hip-hop journalist Sacha Jenkins, will finally come out in the fall of this year.

“To tell our story, we have to give the cultural history of where we came from,” he explained. “So New York City in the eighties, you had all this incredible, exciting music, art, film. All of that sort of has to converge to be able to explain. We just had the good fortune of being around all of it, so I think that’s number one.”
