The Band Preps ‘Music From The Big Pink’ 50th Anniversary Reissue

This year marks the 50th anniversary of The Band releasing their debut studio album Music From Big Pink in 1968. The Band will honor the occasion by putting out a reissue including outtakes, alternate takes and a new stereo mix. Music From The Pink’s 50th Anniversary Edition is due in a variety of formats on August 31.

A Music From Big Pink Super Deluxe (CD/Blu-Ray/2LP/7″) box set is the most expansive version of the reissue available. Like all editions, the box set features a new stereo mix prepped by producer Bob Clearmountain from the original masters. There will be chatter from the studio included in the box set along with five outtakes and alternate recordings from the sessions that yielded Music From Big Pink as well as a previously unreleased a capella version of “I Shall Be Released.”

Clearmountain created a new 5.1 surround mix for the album and the bonus tracks, which will be presented on a Blu-Ray within the box set. Other items included in the box set will be a reproduction of The Band’s 7″ single for “The Weight”/”I Shall Be Released” plus a hardbound book incorporating a new essay penned by David Fricke and photos shot by Elliott Landy.

A pair of vinyl editions of Music From Big Pink will also feature the new mix produced by Clearmountain as will a 2-CD version. The various Music From Big Pink reissues are available for pre-order here.
