Bajaja Music Fest Launches Online Charity Auction Benefiting Local 1st Responders
Proceeds benefit the local community’s first responders Los Bomberos Voluntarios del Pescadero BCS.
The inaugural Bajaja Music Fest, a curated three-day event with 8+ hours of music each day, will take place November 30 – December 2 in the town of El Pescadero, Baja California Sur, Mexico on the Pacific beachside at Playa San Pedrito. Organizers of the boutique event teamed with Positive Legacy to launch and online charity auction with proceeds going to the local community’s first responders Los Bomberos Voluntarios del Pescadero BCS all-volunteer fire brigade.
Here’s more about Los Bomberos Voluntarios del Pescadero BCS:
The Pescadero Bomberos are the sole first-response unit for the entire Pescadero and Cerritos community. They rely on community donations and grants to function and cover many of the expenses from their own pockets. Their aspirations include acquiring new vehicles and establishing a fire station, which will also double as a community and medical center.
Led by Chief Griselda Sotelo, the Bomberos Voluntarios de Pescadero are making history with Mexico’s first female chief. Griselda, alongside her son Fernando, the Capitán, oversees a dedicated team of over 16 volunteer firefighters, all unpaid. This department operates solely through community contributions to ensure everyone’s safety.
Last year, they responded to 1,000 calls, and this year, the numbers are expected to rise. Each call consumes approximately 4,000 MXN (over $200 USD) in gas and supplies. Over half of their budget comes from donations and fundraisers, with the rest being covered by their volunteers. While medical calls dominate, they respond to all emergencies, from fires to accidents, animal rescues, and more.
Among the items featured in the auction include:
- Limited-edition 3LP version of JamBase’s Phish covers compilation Cluster Flies featuring custom artwork and a poster created by Jim Pollock.
- GarciaLive Jerry Garcia vinyl bundle
- Harmonica signed by Blues Traveler’s John Popper
- One-of-a-kind wrapped guitar featuring Bajaja Music Fest art and signed by the event’s headliners
- Tickets to High Sierra Music Festival, Skull & Roses and other festivals
- Tickets to shows in San Francisco, Denver, and New York City
Bajaja Fest’s online charity auction includes the option to donate as part of its Buy A Block campaign. Donations of $100 will be recognized with your family name on a beautiful Talavera tile at the new Fire Station once it’s constructed. Donors can engrave their name (or whatever else, 50 character limit) on a Talavera tile.
The Bajaja Music Fest online charity auction is open now through Saturday, December 2 at 4:20 p.m. PT / 7:20 p.m. ET. Click below or use the QR code to place a bid.
The boutique Bajaja fest will feature headline artists The New Mastersounds, performing their first North American gig since the pandemic. The Bajaja lineup also includes John Medeski, DJ Logic & Friends featuring Eddie Roberts, Reed Mathis, Datrian Johnson and special guests, ALO, Big Light, Rainy Eyes, Destani Wolf and more, including local favorites Los Daturas and Los Hijos del Trópico. Each night will feature different collaborations of musicians playing together.
Bajaja will be held in Playa San Pedrito at the beachfront venue Amaya, which is in close proximity to Los Cabos, the world-renowned surf hub Todos Santos. Also close by is the bustling oasis of La Paz and the bohemian beach community of El Pescadero.
Bajaja is designed to be safe, easy to get to, and all-ages. Bajaja is not all-inclusive or one size fits all, so after grabbing your festival passes you can choose from a selection of lodging options organizers have compiled. The same goes for transportation: you can be as group-oriented or independent as you’d like to be, although on show nights, organizers encourage use of the Concert Shuttle service.
When not watching live music, you can spend your days at one of the world’s top beaches, immersed in the Baja culture and lifestyle. Other activities include surfing, boogie boarding, fishing, yoga, horseback rides on the beach, snorkeling and more, all adjacent to 1700s-style Spanish colonial towns and local communities.
