New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival performers Wilco were forced to cut their headlining set short yesterday after a severe storm hit the city. Their planned one hour and 40 minute set was truncated to just 10 songs over 40 minutes before they were forced off the Gentilly Stage. In fact, all of Jazz Fest was shut down due to the storm, including sets by Jimmy Cliff, Snarky Puppy, Jimmie Vaughan, and Keith Urban. Organizers issued this statement regarding the weather:

“Due to the possibility of severe weather, Day One of Jazz Fest concluded at around 6 p.m. The rest of the first weekend of the Festival is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.”

“We’re going to get as much of this in as we can, so no chitchat,” frontman Jeff Tweedy reportedly told the audience mid-way through the set according to a Times-Picayune recap. Wilco managed to squeeze in “Handshake Drugs,” “Kamera,” “Walken,” “I’m The Man Who Love You,” “Secrets Of The Sea,” “Heavy Metal Drummer,” “Hummingbird,” “Red-Eyed And Blue,” “I Got You (At The End of The Century)” and “Impossible Germany” before calling it quits at approximately 6 p.m.

Several members of Wilco, including guitarist Nels Cline, drummer Glenn Kotche and multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone ventured over to the The Music Box Roving Village for an impromptu jam after the storm had passed. They joined multi-instrumentalist Sean Yseult, trumpeter Steven Bernstein and others at the venue filled with “playable” interactive musical structures.

Wilco next plays Sunday, April 26 in Tallahassee, Florida at the Capital City Amphitheater.
