The Avett Brothers Welcome Paleface At Wolf Trap Finale

Over the weekend, The Avett Brothers performed a three-night stand at Vienna, Virginia’s Wolf Trap, just outside of Washington DC. During the final concert of the run, the band welcomed American musician and former collaborator PALEFACE to join them for two songs.

Ahead of the night’s guest sit-in, The Avett Brothers offered up a far-spanning setlist of fan-favorites and rarities. Opening with “The D Bag Rag” off their 2003 LP A Carolina Jubilee, the group offered tracks from a variety of eras during their career, including tracks off 2007’s Emotionalism, 2009’s I And Love And You and 2016’s True Sadness as well as their 2018 single “Trouble Letting Go.” Midway through the show, the band began to get more experimental with its show, offering up a series of performances featuring only Scott and Seth Avett, such as “C-Sections and Railway Trestles” and “Murder In The City.”

For the special cameo, Paleface joined the band for two songs: “The Fall” and “Dancing Daze.” Throughout both tracks, the guest and the Avett Brothers cracked jokes about their history together and welcomed the crowd in joining in for the laughs. Ultimately, they offered up jubilant, happy-go-lucky performances of the two tunes that were initially recorded on 2006’s Four Thieves Gone. The band then closed out the set with takes on “Laundry Room” and “Ain’t No Man.” For the final encore, Scott Avett and band cellist Joe Kwon sang a Korean rendition of “Froggy Went A Courtin'” before a take on “No Hard Feelings.”
