The Avett Brothers capped their 2024 with a New Year’s Eve concert in their home state of North Carolina at Charlotte’s Bojangles Coliseum. Several guests participated in the celebratory show, including harmonica player Mickey Raphael, The Avett Muppets and once again Valient Himself of the band Valient Thorr assuming his customary role as Father Time for the New Year’s countdown.
Raphael, a longtime member of Willie Nelson’s Family Band, was onstage for the bulk of the December 31 concert. A portion of the set also featured The Avett Muppets representing the three core members of the band — Seth Avett (Seth Monster), Scott Avett (Scott Monster) and Bob Crawford (Bob Monster) — for “Hard Worker,” “November Blue,” “The Traveling Song” and “Ain’t No Man.”

The Avetts were also joined by actor Adrian Enscoe, who starred in the Broadway production of Swept Away, which featured music written by the band. Enscoe was tapped to help a performance of “Murder in the City.” Seth Avett and Scott Avett’s father Jim Avett was also brought onstage for a cover of “Take My Hand, Precious Lord.”
Near the end of the main set, Valient Himself emerged as Father Time for the countdown to midnight. The Avett Brothers then kicked off 2025 with their debut performance of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline.”
