By Scott Bernstein May 18, 2017 11:15 am PDT

Vocalist Chris Cornell performed with artists from many different genres over the course of his career including Americana act The Avett Brothers. The Avetts have issued a statement about Cornell who committed suicide last night in Detroit.

Seth Avett and Scott Avett told Charlotte radio station 106.5, “We have lost a dear friend and the world has lost one of its greatest voices. Chris Cornell was one of the kindest, funniest, and hardest working people who we have ever had the honor to know and to make music with. We will miss him terribly. Our love and deepest sympathy to his family.”

In 2013 The Avett Brothers performed twice with Chris Cornell on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. Up first was the debut of the Avetts’ original “Vanity” from Magpie & The Dandelion. A few weeks later the Soundgarden frontman led The Avett Brothers on a cover of Pearl Jam’s “Footsteps” as part of the Late Night Pearl Jam Week. Finally, Scott and Seth sat-in with Chris Cornell during the vocalist’s December 2, 2013 acoustic show at Knight Theater in Charlotte on “Vanity,” “Footsteps” and Audioslave’s “Like A Stone.”
