‘Austin City Limits’ Shares Leon Russell ‘A Song For You’ Performance

Renowned musician, songwriter and arranger Leon Russell passed away last week at the age 74, leaving behind an influential and important body of work. Among the Tulsa, Oklahoma-raised keyboardist’s best-known contributions was his composition “A Song For You” which has been recorded by scores of other artists and was a staple of Leon’s live repertoire.

Long running live concert series Austin City Limits welcomed Russell to the stage in Austin, Texas on a number of occasions. Leon was Willie Nelson’s special guest for a taping of an episode in 2000 and was a featured solo performer on an episode in 1987.

That evening he performed his beloved “A Song For You,” highlighted by a saxophone solo by Edgar Winter. Austin City Limits shared official footage of the rendition, watch it below:
