Atlanta’s Variety Playhouse will host “Atlanta Pop: Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Atlanta International Pop Festival” on December 6. The concert will mainly feature Georgia-based musicians that will pay tribute to the Atlanta International Pop Festival, which was held at the Atlanta International Raceway in Hampton, Georgia July 4 – 5, 1969 and included performances witnessed by over 140K people from Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin and more.
Supergroup The Hues Of Miriam — consisting of Col. Bruce Hampton alumni Jacob Deaton, Nick Johnson, Kevin Scott, Darren Stanley, Matt Slocum and Duane Trucks — will make their debut at the event. The Atlanta-based ensemble will serve as house band for performances of material played at Atlanta Pop installments in 1969 and 1970.
A bevy of special guests are aboard to join the house band at various points in the evening. Brandon “Taz” Niederauer, Charlie Starr, Jennifer Hartswick, Jeff Mosier, Denny Walley, T. Hardy Morris, Sven Pipien, Cicada Rhythm, Thomas Johnson, Carter King and Daniel Womack are among those on the lineup.
Additional lineup announcements are forthcoming. Tickets go on sale Friday, September 20 via Zeromile.com.
