Arooj Aftab & Khruangbin Share ‘raat ki rani’ Remix Inspired By ‘Groovy Soul House Music’

The reimagining of Aftab’s 2024 single features re-recorded vocals and instrumentals from the Houston-based groove trio.

Arooj Aftab released a new track, “raat ki rani” (Khruangbin Remix).” The Arooj Aftab/Khruangbin studio recording came to fruition after the artists toured together in 2024.

Following their Fall 2024 tour, Arooj Aftab and Khruangbin headed into the studio to cut the remix of “raat ki rani,” the former’s Grammy-nominated single off her album, Night Reign. Arooj Aftab performed the acclaimed cut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in December.

“This new version of [“raat ki rani”] (whose title translates to ‘Queen of the Night’—the intoxicatingly fragrant, night-blooming flower) features new instrumentals from Khruangbin and re-recorded vocals by Aftab,” as per press materials for the remix. “The infectious rhythm of the original track was influenced by the Brazilian music style maracatu, while the remix taps into the style of ‘90s-early ‘00s groovy soul house music.”
