Watch Trailer For Aretha Franklin Biopic ‘Respect’ Starring Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson stars as Aretha Franklin in an upcoming biopic about The Queen Of Soul, Respect. Universal Pictures shared a trailer from the film set for release in early-2021.
The film, which Franklin was involved in prior to her death in 2018, is said to follow “the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom” and “is the remarkable true story of the music icon’s journey to find her voice.”

Directed by Liesl Tommy, written by Tracey Scott Wilson and produced by Scott Bernstein and Harvey Mason Jr., Respect also stars Forest Whitaker in the role of Aretha Franklin’s father Reverend C.L. Franklin, Marlon Wayans as Aretha’s ex-husband and manager Ted White, Marc Maron cast as Atlantic Records executive Jerry Wexler and Mary J. Blige as singer Dinah Washington. Others appearing in various roles in the film include Audra McDonald, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Skye Dakota Turner and Tate Donovan.
