Arcade Fire Shares ‘Chemistry’ Video
Arcade Fire last year released the studio album Everything Now. The band shared an official video for the album track “Chemistry.”
Arcade Fire’s fifth studio album, Everything Now was their first to debut atop the Billboard 200 Albums chart. One of 13 songs on the record, “Chemistry” was first played live in July of last year, a few weeks before the LP’s release.
The “Chemistry” video was animated by Starburns Industries and features Tootie Tootz of Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce fame. The video was directed by Ray Tintori.
“We’ve been big fans of Ray’s work since his early videos and there was talk of collaborating during The Suburbs shoot — we were going to film it in New Orleans but then it got moved to Austin at the last minute, and Ray was caught up working on Beasts of the Southern Wild,” said frontman Win Butler. “So it was very full circle to finally be working with him in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. There is a playful, carnivalesque energy to the song; to capture that by filming literally during carnival felt right.”
Here’s more about the animation:
While the core “Chemistry” story is of an animated dog and cat (played by Ms. Tootz) meeting at her wedding reception where the dog is working as a caterer, the animated characters travel to space at one point, and after destroying the International Space Station, land back on Earth, finding themselves in the midst of the Fat Tuesday in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans.
