Arcade Fire Covers R.E.M. In Atlanta

At most stops on Arcade Fire’s Reflektor Tour fans have been treated to a cover debut featuring a song from local legends such as Blondie, Prince, Chuck Berry, Devo, Boyz II Men and others. The Montreal-based band continued that trend last night at Lakewood in Atlanta.

Arcade Fire debuted a cover of R.E.M.’s “Radio Free Europe” as part of their encore last night at the Georgia venue. R.E.M. was formed and based in Athens, GA. A slowed-down recording of “Hey Ya” by Atlanta’s own Outkast played as actors (fans?) wearing bobbleheads mimed along before the real band took the stage for the encore. The evening’s setlist also featured just the third “Get Right” of the tour and the run’s fifth “Month Of May,” a fitting song considering the current month.
