Animated Video: Gov’t Mule Covers ZZ Top At First Recording Session

Earlier this month Gov’t Mule released The Tel-Star Sessions, which documents the band’s first-ever visit to a studio. Today, Mule has unveiled a very cool animated video for the ZZ Top cover the trio recorded during their 1994 session at Tel-Star Studios.
At the time, Gov’t Mule featured guitarist Warren Haynes, drummer Matt Abts and bassist Allen Woody. The band assembled at Tel-Star Studios in Bradenton, Florida to record their first studio album. Instead, the trio went a different direction with a different producer for their 1995 debut. We finally got an official release of the Tel-Star Sessions in early August, complete with Mule’s hard-nosed cover of “Just Got Paid” by ZZ Top.
Gov’t Mule recently busted out “Just Got Paid” for the first time in 11 years. We have a feeling it’ll be in steady rotation over the next month as the now quartet will soon hit the road for a series of eight dates with ZZ Top between September 9 and 20.
