Watch André 3000’s Experimental Woodwind Journey On ‘Fallon’

André 3000 stopped by 30 Rock on Monday for an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. After chatting with host Jimmy Fallon, André 3000 delivered a performance of New Blue Sun track “BuyPoloDisorder’s Daughter Wears A 3000® Shirt Embroidered.”

The Outkast co-founder released New Blue Sun, his debut solo album, in November of 2023. “I have been still producing and making beats and trying to do a vocal rap situation, because I’m still a fan of rap. But that wasn’t on tap right now,” André 3000 told Fallon of his decision to make the all-instrumental album.

New Blue Sun finds André 3000 playing a multitude of wind instrumentals, including the Maya flute, a digital wind instrument, as well as others built of wood and bamboo. “I’ve been playing the particular flute that got me down this path for about seven years,” the musician explained. “But I’ve always been into wind instruments, even during Outkast times.”

“BuyPoloDisorder’s Daughter Wears A 3000® Shirt Embroidered” is one of eight tracks with lengthy titles featured on New Blue Sun. André 3000 and his band cut the song from the 13 minutes featured on the LP to a more television-friendly five minutes for The Tonight Show. Watch André 3000’s performance and interview below:
