Amy Helm & Handsome Strangers ‘Atlantic City’ Garden Sessions

While Bruce Springsteen wrote and recorded “Atlantic City” for his 1982 album Nebraska, the song was given new life in the hands of Levon Helm and The Band. Helm and The Band transformed Bruce’s song for their 1993 album Jericho and it became a staple for the group in their late years and then for Levon and his projects. Helm’s daughter Amy Helm and her band, Handsome Strangers, recorded a take on the tune for Radio Woodstock’s Garden Sessions video series.
Amy Helm & Handsome Strangers’ stripped-down rendition of “Atlantic City” finds Helm both singing and strumming mandolin joined by Byron Isaacs and Daniel Littleton on acoustic guitars as well as David Berger on shaker and kick drum. Take a look:
