Singer-songwriter Amy Helm will release her second solo album This Too Shall Light via Yep Roc Records on September 21. Helm shared the title track, co-written by Josh Kaufman of Bob Weir’s Campfire Band and Hiss Golden Messenger mastermind M.C. Taylor, from the 10-track LP.

Amy Helm recorded This Too Shall Light with producer Joe Henry over a span of just four days at United Recording Studios in Los Angeles. United Recording Studios is the same compound where The Beach Boys laid down Pet Sounds and The Mamas & The Papas recorded “California Dreamin.'” The 10-song collection mixes originals penned by Helm and Henry with songs by Rod Stewart, T Bone Burnett, Allen Toussaint and Blossom Dearie. This Too Shall Light also includes “The Stones I Throw” from her father Levon Helm’s pre-The Band days.

“We just kind of set up, threw our stuff down and started playing without much thought, without much arranging, without much rehearsal and with lots of extra voices,” Amy said of the sessions in a statement. “That’s what we wanted the record to sound like and feel like. I had a picture of Mavis [Staples] near my recording station and a picture of my little boys. That was about it.”

“The week before I went out to record, that tune in particular was singing in my mind off and on throughout the days,” Helm told Rolling Stone about the title track. “I could hear it fitting into this new record I was about to make, especially soaked with harmonies. So I took it for this one.”
