Singer-songwriter Amos Lee is gearing up to release his first album of original music in two years, Transmissions, on August 9 via Hoagiemouth Records/Thirty Tigers. Lee and his current band played three songs from the LP for the latest CBS Saturday Morning “Saturday Sessions.”

The “Saturday Sessions” set was one of the first gigs for guitarist Adam Minkoff (Dweezil Zappa, Amy Helm) since he joined Lee’s incredibly talented ensemble. Amos Lee is also accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Zach Djanikian, bassist Solomon Dorsey, drummer Lee Falco and keyboardist Jaron Olevsky.

Transmissions marks an evolution for Lee as he explores new sonic landscapes and tackles themes of loss and finding your place in the world. Lee recorded the 12-track LP with the members of his band — sans Minkoff and Dorsey — at a studio Falco and the drummer’s father made near Woodstock in rural Marlboro, New York out of reclaimed wood from an old church.

Amos Lee kicked off his appearance on CBS Saturday Morning with “Hold On Tight,” a rocking single from Transmissions. “This is about having a much tighter handle on how important our people are to us, your friends and your family, and watching people go that you love,” Lee said when the song was released. “It’s about appreciating people and wanting to make sure everybody that you love knows you love them and find them important. It’s a pretty simple little song.”

Next came the more melancholy “Carry You On,” a song Lee wrote about a friend who passed away in 2019. Each member of Amos’ band are fantastic singers and their beautiful harmonies were on display in the set-closing “Built To Fall.”
