Singer-songwriter Amanda Shires and drummer Jerry Pentecost hosted an afterhours tribute to women songwriters during the recently completed Cayamo musical cruise. Shires’ husband, Jason Isbell, bassist Macey Taylor, long time Gregg Allman Band keyboardist Peter Levin and guitarist Zack Setchfield were among those who joined Amanda as the “house band” for the set.

Isbell performed Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” and “Essence” by Lucinda Williams. Keb’ Mo’ emerged for Betty Wright’s “Clean Up Woman,” while Tommy Emmanuel led Carole King’s “It’s Too Late.” Other performances included Paul Thorn channeling Gloria Gaynor on “I Will Survive,” Will Kimbrough fronting Lucinda Williams’ “Passionate Kisses,” Buddy Miller belting out Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” and Shires leading a cover of “Borderline” by Madonna.
