Journalist Alan Paul literally wrote the book on The Allman Brothers Band. His One Way Out: The Inside Story Of The Allman Brothers Band is as comprehensive a look at the legendary band as it gets. Paul became good friends with Butch Trucks and will honor the recently passed drummer with a performance tonight.
Alan Paul’s Big In China band will play Suzy Que’s BBQ and Bar in West Orange, New Jersey tonight (Friday, January 27). “Butch was the Allman Brothers’ freight train heart and his sudden death is a shocking blow to the band’s entire extended community and fanbase,” said Paul. “He was a wonderful resource throughout the writing of One Way Out and after and his loss leaves a void not only in the music world but in my personal life. I am going to pay tribute in the best way I know: with a night of music played from the bottom of my heart. I hope that others feeling the loss can join us in celebration of Butch’s music and the joy he brought so many for so long.”
Paul will be streaming the first song which will take place around 8:45 p.m. ET and others throughout the night, via his Facebook page. Watch Big In China with Andy Aledort play “Blue Sky”:
