Aaron Neville & Cyril Neville Help Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue Close Out 2019 Jazz Fest In New Orleans
By Scott Bernstein May 6, 2019 • 7:48 am PDT
Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue closed out the Acura Stage at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on Sunday as they had every Jazz Fest since 2013. The Neville Brothers held down the slot from ’80s through 2012, so it was only fitting two founding members of the group helped Shorty end this year’s Fest.
Aaron Neville and Cyril Neville both added to Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue’s set yesterday as did Aaron’s son Ivan Neville and founding member Art Neville’s son Ian Neville. The stage was filled with the Nevilles, other members of Ian and Ivan’s Dumpstaphunk project and more for the Neville Brothers’ classic “Yellow Moon.” In a gorgeous moment, Aaron sang “Amazing Grace” as only he can with accompaniment from his son Ivan.
