44th Annual Jazz Fest Wrap Up
More than 425,000 fans attended the 2013 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell. Despite rainy conditions on three of the seven event days, Festival-goers filled the Fair Grounds Race Course on April 26-28 and May 2-5 to be a part of the 44th annual Jazz Fest.
Highlights of Jazz Fest 2013 included: Trombone Shorty’s thrilling leap to superstardom as he closed out the Festival on the Acura Stage for the first time; Fleetwood Mac’s brilliant 2 ½-hour Jazz Fest debut; Billy Joel’s day in the sunshine at Jazz Fest, complete with a guest-appearance by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band ; Frank Ocean’s triumphant homecoming performance on the Congo Square Stage; Daryl Hall & John Oates’ nonstop romp through their unparalleled catalog of soulful melodies; Aaron Neville’s doo wop-inspired set that closed out the Festival on the Gentilly Stage; first- time appearances by Maroon 5, The Black Keys , Phoenix , Patti Smith; and much, much more.
Aaron Neville was also the featured subject of this year’s Official Jazz Fest poster, which sold out of the CMarque editions, leaving only a limited number of the other editions available at www.art4now.com.
AXS TV offered the first live national television broadcast of Jazz Fest on May 3, 4, and 5. TuneIn Radio presented exclusive and unprecedented audio streams of live and pre-recorded Jazz Fest performances during the second weekend of the Festival. During the weeks leading up to the 2013 event, TuneIn also created New Orleans Jazz Fest Radio, broadcasting 24-hour music by Jazz Fest artists.
