13-Year-Old Pianist Owen York Unveils David Bowie Medley

Talented youngster Owen York has impressed over the past year with his medleys of songs by Umphrey’s McGee (with whom he played a soundcheck in 2016), Radiohead, Beck, and The Who. York has now completed one of his most ambitious projects to date, a 17-minute medley covering more than 20 David Bowie songs.

Ranging from 1969’s “Space Oddity” through compositions of the late 1990s, Owen’s jazzy, improvisational style emerges throughout the Bowie medley. Hits like “Ziggy Stardust” (which Owen played at Madison Square Garden), “Let’s Dance,” “Rebel Rebel,” “Ashes To Ashes” and “Heroes” appear here, along with a host of Bowie’s always compelling works.

Owen continues as pianist and youngest member of the elite Rockland Youth Jazz Ensemble, with gifted musicians from New York and New Jersey. He has written numerous originals including “Lotos” — pro-shot here last summer in front of a live audience at French Woods Camp in Hancock, New York:
