12-Year-Old Brandon Niederauer Jams With Dr. John

New Orleans legend Dr. John played Tipitina’s in The Crescent City Thursday night on New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fest eve. While Dr. John has been a fixture at Jazz Fest since its start, he was joined by one of the youngest performers on hand for the annual celebration -12-year-old guitarist Brandon “Taz” Niederauer -during his set at Tip’s.

Niederauer added more subtle guitar parts than we’re used to from “Taz” to Dr. John’s 1968 classic “I Walk On Guilded Splinters.” Trombonist Carly Meyers also contributed to Thursday night’s “Guilded Splinters.” The Night Tripper returns to New Orleans on May 3 for a set at The Fairgrounds as part of the final day of this year’s Jazz Fest. As for Taz, we’re sure he’ll turn up at many gigs during his time in New Orleans.
