Rolling Stones Bust Out Sticky Fingers Material & Honor B.B. King

Just days before the start of The Rolling Stones’ Zip Code Tour, which will find the band performing at huge venues across North America, the band played the intimate confines of The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles last night to promote the upcoming re-release of the legendary 1971 album Sticky Fingers. Mick Jagger & Co.’s complete album performance wasn’t the only treat they had in store on Wednesday night.

The Rolling Stones opened in familiar fashion with “Start Me Up” before trotting out “When The Whip Comes Down” and “All Down The Line.” From there, the band tore through each and every track from Sticky Fingers featuring their extended touring band with members such as saxophonist Karl Denson and two keyboardists Matt Clifford and Chuck Leavell. There are four songs off Sticky Fingers the Stones hadn’t played this century, so last night witnessed the return of “Sister Morphine” for the first time since July 6, 1998; “You Gotta Move” for the first time since August 21, 1976 (nearly 39 years!); “I Got The Blues” for the first time since June 8, 1999 and the first “Moonlight Mile” since April 20, 1999.

When the band returned for the encore they started off by honoring the late B.B. King with a cover of “Rock Me Baby,” which was last played September 20, 2003. “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” came next followed by a show-closing rendition of Otis Redding’s “Can’t Turn You Loose.” The Stones played “Can’t Turn You Loose” a number of times in 2002 and 2003, but last night marked its return for the first time since September 11, 2003.
