Primus :: 5.07.15 :: Red Rocks :: Morrison, CO

After three extensive legs, Primus played their final Chocolate Factory show in the United States at the iconic Red Rocks Amhpitheatre in Morrison, Colorado on Thursday night. Les Claypool and Co. have been touring extensively in support of Primus & The Chocolate Factory which was released in October. Claypool recently revealed the band had signed a deal with Wonka trademark owners Warners that allows them to use imagery from the movie through September. Primus will soon bring the Chocolate Factory Tour to Europe and Canada, but the trio’s U.S. Summer Tour with Dinosaur Jr. is not branded as Primus & The Chocolate Factory.

Primus opened the evening with a first set filled with pre-Chocolate Factory classics including a “My Name Is Mud”/”Jerry Was A Racecar Driver” sequence. At setbreak the stage was transformed into a Wonka Wonderland before Primus and The Fungi Ensemble (featuring percussionist Mike Dillon) treated the Colorado crowd to their interpretation of the Charlie & The Chocolate Factory soundtrack. The trio brought the show and tour to a close with a three-song encore that started with “Too Many Puppies” off Frizzle Fry and ended with The Fungi Ensemble coming back out for “Southbound Pachyderm” and “Here Comes The Bastards.”
