When David Letterman steps down as host of The Late Show With David Letterman a true supporter of music will have left broadcast television. It was often clear on many a night that Dave was a fan of the musical guest gracing the same stage The Beatles made their T.V. debut decades before. Whether a longtime supporter or an instant convert, Letterman never seemed to overlook the importance the musical guests brought to his shows. Earlier this week the final music invitees were revealed, with Elvis Costello, Dave Matthews Band, Tom Waits, Mumford & Sons, Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, Ralph Stanley and The Avett Brothers among those performing at The Ed Sullivan Theater before Dave hangs it up on May 20.

The Live On Letterman webcast concert series was another way for CBS and Letterman to give stage time to the show’s musical guests. The final installment of the series, Legends on Letterman, has Dave Matthews Band and Mumford & Sons lined up to play a full set live on CBS.com and on-demand on CBS.com. The Live On Letterman series saw the likes of Phish, The Black Keys, Foo Fighters, MGMT, St. Vincent, The Avett Brothers, The Shins and Ryan Adams whose performance is today’s Full Show Friday pick.

Taped December 5, 2011, Adams was in the midst of an extensive solo acoustic tour in support of his record Ashes & Fire. The 11 song set mixing old and new originals with a cover was in conjunction with his performance of the album’s track “Lucky Now” on the Late Show that same night. Adams played piano as well as a handful of acoustic guitars interspersed with his sardonic and plentiful banter.
