Of the many unique musical experiences cruisers can partake in on Jam Cruise, there’s nothing on land quite like “The Spot.” Starting with Jam Cruise 9 in 2011, singer-songwriter Nathan Moore has hosted an unofficial performance space aboard the boat to play songs with his musical friends. Back on Jam Cruise 9, you’d always find a few people watching Nathan and his mates show off their new songs, classics and covers to each other; but in recent years “The Spot” has become “a thing” and late night on Jam Cruise 13 earlier this month it wouldn’t be unusual to find nearly a 100 Jam Cruisers taking a break from the more high-intensity music aboard the boat to check out “The Spot.”

This year’s Jam Cruise featured a “Spot” friendly lineup that included the likes of Fruition, Elephant Revival, California Honeydrops & Shook Twins as well as Artists-At-Large such as Ryan Montbleau, Tim Carbone and Anders Beck & Paul Hoffman of Greensky Bluegrass. Nathan spent the first night of the trip doing reconnaissance to find the best area for “The Spot.” The performance space was moved across the boat to an area more conducive to the hangouts and music that goes on at “The Spot,” and the new location was a winner.

Each year, Nathan writes a boat-themed song during Jam Cruise and this year’s tune was named “Boat Song #13.” Moore, who always has his trusty camcorder by his side, has created a video for “Boat Song #13” utilizing footage he shot both at “The Spot” and at other locales on Jam Cruise 13.
