Cultural icon David Bowie will be honored with “David Bowie Day” on September 23rd in The Windy City. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel made the proclamation to coincide with the opening of the David Bowie Is… exhibition at Chicago’s Museum Of Contemporary Art.

Emanuel’s proclamation, which can be viewed below, notes that Bowie “has impacted and inspired millions of fans across the globe for more than 50 years” and that “Bowie’s remarkable half-century career has bridged cultures and faiths while both transcending and fortifying the music, art, fashion and design and theatrical canons.”

David Bowie Is… makes its first U.S. stop in Chicago, where it’s set to run from September 23 to January 4. The exhibit includes more than 400 objects such as handwritten lyrics, original costumes, photography, set designs, album artwork, and rare performance material from the past five decades.
