Earlier today Stereogum published an interview with Ryan Adams on the eve of the singer-songwriter’s self-titled LP hitting stores. Adams mentions many other acts within the interview, including one we were very surprised to see –Umphrey’s McGee.

In the interview, Adams discusses how writing and recording songs are like jamming to him, “Music has always been the thing that I do. The way that I jam — I’m not in Umphrey’s McGee or something. I don’t know any jazz stuff. I don’t know how to jam in that way. So jamming for me is writing a tune.” Ryan does sell himself short as he did hold his own in a handful of past performances with Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh. Team Umphrey’s caught wind of Adams’ shout out and extended an open invitation for Ryan to jam with the band:

Here’s hoping Adams, who’s active on Twitter, takes UM up on their offer.

As we reported earlier today, Ryan Adams has added a pair of NYC shows and a performance in Austin, TX to his upcoming tour. He also shared a hilarious promo for the new LP starring rockers Bob Mould and Don Was as well as comedians Jeff Garlin and Garry Shandling:
