Bruce Springsteen Covers ‘Take It Easy’ In Chicago

By Scott Bernstein Jan 20, 2016 6:24 am PST

Just one day after the world learned of the passing of Eagles co-founder Glenn Frey, Bruce Springsteen took the stage at Chicago’s United Center for the second stop of The River Tour with The E Street Band. The Boss started the evening’s encore with a tribute to Frey by serving up an acoustic rendition of “Take It Easy.”

Last night marked the second time in the now two-show old tour Springsteen paid tribute to a rocker who has passed since he paired with the E Street Band on a cover of David Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel” on opening night in Pittsburgh. As is expected to be the case at all shows this tour, last night’s concert opened with The River outtake “Meet Me In The City” followed by a complete performance of the 1980 double album. The New Jersey native switched it up after The River by offering tour debuts of “Night,” “No Surrender,” “Cover Me,” “She’s The One” and “Human Touch” before ending the main set with “The Rising” and “Thunder Road.” The Boss’s encore was similar to opening night with the exception of the “Take It Easy” cover.
