New Monsoon plays in front of a larger crowd every night. With a recent swap in bass guitars players, the San Francisco band welcomes Ron Johnson (KDTU, Chris Berry) to the band. In 2005, New Monsoon continued its ascent, with a another heavy schedule of shows, that included a slot on the Big Summer Classic, along with String Cheese Incident, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Umphrey's McGee, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Keller Williams. The tour had stops at places like Red Rocks Ampitheatre, Summerfest, All Good Fest, and Prospect Park. In September, New Monsoon released its third studio album, The Sound, through Harmonized Records. Michael Shrieve, Santana's original drummer and a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, produced the album, along with Paul Kimble (Grant Lee Buffalo). Shrieve's deep history in the world of percussion and big band rock, as well as Kimble's acute knowledge of songcrafting, helped take the band to new levels. Since then, New Monsoon has performed at Michael Franti's Power to the Peaceful Festival as well as the Austin City Limits Festival.
Formed in the late 1990's, Moonshine Still has garnered a large grassroots following due to their unparalleled live performances. This year, a new chapter has begun for MsS as Will Robinson, drummer and co-founder, had to leave the band. With the amount of excitement leading up to the decision, Moonshine Still has passed drumming duties on to Jon Joiner. 2006 saw MsS headline the Terrapin JamFest, sponsored by Terrapin Beer and Hittin' the Note Magazine. [R]evolution, their latest full-length studio album was released in the spring of 2005 and has had received enthusiastic reviews. The album was recorded at one of the nation's most celebrated studios, Tree Sound Studios, under the direction of produced Robert Hannon (Grammy Award Winner for OutKast's - Speaker Boxxx/Love Below) and executive producer Paul Diaz. Recently, Moonshine Still has performed at the Wakarusa Music Festival and moe.Down in upstate New York.
Winners of this years Jamband Album of the Year and Jam Single of the year from the L.A. Music Awards, Underground Orchestra is truly making a name for themselves. With a wide range of backgrounds and musical ventures, Underground Orchestra is an especially unique band. First timers are initially drawn into Sam Feldman's talent and creativity on lead guitar. With influences of Joe Satriani, Hendrix and Carlos Santana, it is easy to become attached from the start. BB on percussion brings a style that extends from a background beat. With a combo of congas, timbales and blocks, Ben's style and almost frontman-esque energy, gives this band a fresh sense of backbone when mixed with the tight tempo of drummer EJ Wasik and the everlasting funk of bassist Greg Wishon. On keys, Vaughn Minassian adds a smooth touch of classical piano mixed with a clear influence of intricate jazz. Together, the boundaries that this band conquers from show to show have become endless, giving audiences a unique experience in every performance.
