Cop confronting Adam on stage :: 10.13 :: Houston
Adam and Tyson (Two Gallants) want to apologize for the show in Houston at Walter's On Washington being cut short on Friday October 13. Some of the mainstream sources have been inaccurate so we want to thank all of you who have emailed offering your support and eyewitness accounts of what really happened. You can read some of these and see some images (see below). The band will speak more about this in the next few days as they have been advised not to comment much at this point.

What follows are first-hand accounts from people who were in Houston. JamBase did not have any reporters on the scene. While the videos, pictures and reports are rather telling, we must be sure to mention that the words below are not from JamBase writers.

Cop attacking Adam and Tyson :: 10.13 :: Houston
Two Gallants were on their fourth song when a cop shows up for a noise complaint. He did not go to the soundboard but immediately heads to the stage. He has some words with the singer Adam and then the cop grabs his guitar. Adam pulls it back and then the cop grabs him around the head and slams him down on the stage. Tyson (the drummer) jumps up from the drums and moves to where the cop is holding Adam down. The cop then throws Tyson down too. You can in the picture where Tyson is pretty much on top of Adam with the cop holding both of them down. Then some other dudes get on stage and a bunch of others swarm up and start taking pictures. Someone gets between Adam and the cop and is calming things down. It could've ended here as everyone was calming down. Then the cop turns on my friend Greg who is taking pics and says "stop touching me" or something like that and knocks Greg's camera out of his hand, and then the cop jumps off stage and starts pushing Greg in the chest across the room while Greg is just backing away. The cop also is waving his tazer around at this point. He eventually backs Greg into that corner where everybody puts their instruments (to the right of the stage) and pushes him down into a pile of drums and the standup bass the opening band was playing. People freak out and about 20 people rush over there including the dudes from the opening band as well as Adam and Tyson. I thought at this point the cop was going to get the shit kicked out of him. But I guess everyone was just standing around yelling or something so anyway the cop manages his way out of that pack and then starts chasing Adam. Adam runs across the stage and around the back of the bar with the cop right behind him. He runs behind the bar and jumps over the front of the bar and runs out the door and down the street. Later that evening my friend Jennifer was riding her bike home and saw Adam walking in the neighborhood. She took him back to her house until around 2 a.m. when he got hold of his manager who had a hotel room already. She took him to his hotel room. Meanwhile, the cop comes back around the door and is yelling at everyone to leave. He then walks outside and grabs Tyson and cuffs him. He tells Tyson something like he is being arrested for what his buddy did. Meanwhile some other people are yelling at the cop and he is walking around with his handcuffs out threatening to arrest everyone. He then grabs another dude and arrests him. Then about nine other cop cars showed up and those cops all jump out of their cars. We walked across the street so as not to get arrested or anything. I see them then arrest my friend Greg as well as four or so other people. I hear they were arresting the opening band folks but that Pam (the club owner) got them out. That is all I know; except that the first cop that came was a fuckin' lunatic. You do not walk into a show and do what he did. He seemed way more interested in fuckin' shit up then he did in calmly diffusing anything. That guy had a real chip on his shoulder... I have never seen anything like that... I guess they are never coming back to Houston again.

This was posted as a comment on this myspace site:
I have spoken to this lady and she verifies her son was tazered. Also in the third video below you can see her behind the bar as the cop is running around it...

HPD Bullshit Houston Show Adam ATTACKED by Houston police officer at the show on October 13th. This was a complete attack, Adam did nothing and was punched, thrown down, tazered, chased and all for playing music. I'm personally mortified by this. Not only did the officer attack and hurt Adam he also attacked Tyson for trying to help his bandmate as well as many other people at the show. Adam I believe got away Tyson ended up in the back of a police car for no reason. As Adam was running from the crazed police officer my 12 year old daughter my 14 year old son my husband and myself were attacked in the process my daughter was pushed into the bar my son and husband were both tazered as I ran as fast as I could behind the bar to get out of Adams way so he could escape this ignorant Houston Police Officer. Adam, where ever you are thanks for the few songs you were able to play, hope you all got the merch money thank god we got our merch before the show. Tyson thank you for the best drumming I've ever seen it was nice talking to you before the show. If you guys ever want to play near Houston again without the threat of Police Attack let me know we have a venue in Beaumont the Vortex call Amy Butterer with Billions Corp. and she can tell you all about our venue or you can look us up on line at ( Sorry you had to go through all of this. I do hear a song in it.

From Two Gallants mgmt: Tyson was taken in last night. We almost have him out. Then we will be able to make sense of what happened. Thanks everyone for your support.
Oct 14th, 2006 - 1:36 PM

More updates:
Okay so I talked to my friend Greg finally. He got out of jail at about 5:30 this evening. He was one of the lucky ones since some of the other dudes were getting transferred over to county and would probably be there for another ten to 12 hours. He was charged with interfering with an officer. However as you can see from the video clips it appears there was no interference. The beginning is kinda shaky but you can see the cop take Adam down. You can also see where things could've calmed down, but then the cop slaps the camera out of Greg's hand. There will be other clips from Greg soon. He picked the camera back up and the recorded as the cop pushed him around the bar and into the instruments in the corner. Anyway, I think it speaks for itself...

From the video, It looked like tyson and adam were maturely trying to settle the situation, but that stupid pig was on a nice little power-trip and decided he wanted to get violent. Also, WHO THE HELL TASERS A 14 YEAR OLD KID! -What a bunch of narks

Yep, this could've happened anywhere, but unfortunately it happened in Houston. I'm a lifelong Texas resident and I just wanted to say that THIS IS NOT INDICATIVE OF ALL TEXANS!!! When this shit happens in our yard, I always feel like it sets Texans back in the eyes of the rest of the world. We aren't all racists, rednecks and asshole pigs. I'm sorry this happened at all, please don't let it keep your from visiting Texas, either as a band member or as a concert attendee.

I'm from Houston, I've been to Walter's, that place maybe fits 100 people, and it really doesn't get that loud. Already enough bands seem to avoid Houston for Austin or Dallas, and this is only going to make it worse. I'm glad I go to school in Philly where the cops worry about real problems.

The individuals involved should also file a civil suit against the officer for assult. It seems like there is enough HARD evidence here to support their case, ie. video, pictures, and eye-witness accounts. It's usually a case of "my word against his". This evidence will hold up. Stick it to that prick. It's a shame. A lot of officers really are respectful, peace keeping individuals, then there are assholes like this guy.

I find it rather ironic that a police officer (who is supposed to be keeper of the peace) is the one who caused so much chaos over a noise complaint. I hope they can get that psycho off the streets because he certainly isn't one of the good guys.

I wonder how many rapes, murders, or other things that are HARMFUL to society were going on that night that the officer could have been dealing with.. but nooooo, loud music is the #1 priority on this officers list. LOUD MUSIC IS KILLING OUR CHILDREN!! ;)

Cops in the South are corupt bastards with nothing better to do than bust balls. I've never been to Texas and I really have no intention to. I've drove to see Panic in ATL for three different New Year shows and I've seen people thrown in Pady Wagons way too many times. My advice is come to Colorado to see shows, in order to avoid unfortunate situations like this one.

This really irritates me, and cops wonder why they are hated so much. I know that there are officers out there that do their job the right way, but this is out of control. That video footage is enough to get that cop in trouble, but like many of you have already stated, he will get off eventually and keep being an a-hole.

1st off this was wrong. As wrong as complaining about the Police in general, if you have a problem with people who keep us safe and protect us your someone who is probally breaking the law. Rather than either move to a country that allows your behaivor, or VOTE to change things you sit arround and bitch, what a joke. AS big a joke as this disgrace to the badge is, you people are pretty quick to condem the entire force.

This cop will get what he deserves.

Oh btw. What would of happened if the guitar player listen to the cop and stoped playing right away? My point is only having an ego with a police officer is asking for an ass beating! Especially in a red neck place like Texas.

Listen... sure, this is b.s. and none of us want to see anything like this happen to anyone, but what many are missing is that we only have two videos on youTube to go by. I'm sure that the cop over-reacted, don't get me wrong, but to generalize this as just another case of police corruption, or southern cops being dicks, or the man keeping us down - is just as ignorant as calling the officer in question a "texas pig".

No onre truly knows what happened in Houston unless they were there. Unless you have ever been through PD training, you don't know the thought process involved here on the officer's part. Why was there a noise complaint about a bar on a Friday night in the forst place?

My point is that there is obviously more to this situation than we can discern from a few YouTube videos and maybe we should attempt to keep people from stereotyoing us as militant hippies or lawless tour kid and wait to gain a fuller understanding of the situation...

In one of the videos you can hear the cop call for backup and a young lady in the crowd responds "We need backup...fuck you!" The cop looked like he was going through some roid rage. People are defending the cop??? Cops go way beyond their responsibility of protecting people very often and it is not always reported or something that can easily be proven in court. It is definitely not a stretch to think the cop was in the wrong. Look at our leaders they were war hungry criminals intent on creatiing a violent society. This should be no shock.

i understand that the police are needed for many reasons in this f'd up society, but not for this reason at all. this cop, for one, should be fired for aggravated assault and harrassment. it sounds very unethical. 2nd, why didn't the cop talk to the owner of the bar and work it out with them first. the band was playing a paid gig on someone else's property. 3rd, does this bar have bands on a regular basis. if so, do they do this when all bands are playing, or are they just discriminating against a type of music? i don't know. i'm not a big fan of texas to begin with, with their very strict laws and ignorant attitudes. sorry if you're from texas, but i've heard too many bad things. please post more pics as they are available, i really hope all the those ATTACKED by the pigs need to be compensated with a nice lawsuit. i don't understand how this could happen. this is 2006, not 1956. i say the people in houston need to protest the ignorance of their police force and the rest of us around the country need to protect ourselves from them as well. Know your rights and don't let them bully you, because that's the way a lot of them act, like bullies. they act better than others, because they carry a badge and gun. not all, just the ignorant ones. a lot of these guys are high school jocks who aren't smart enought to do anything else, but be bullies. that's my $.02. POWER TO THE PEOPLE. PEACE, LOVE, AND MUSIC - don't give up the fight.

Turn a noise complaint into a dangerous situation?... Way to go HPD! The training program should perhaps focus more time on appropriate crowd control and how to diffuse a noise complaint without immediately resorting to beat downs and tasers. Maybe, throw in a couple hours on anger management, the effective use of a small penis and the harmful side effects of HGH and steroids.

I guess ultimately, we should blame the musician that was giving this cop's girlfriend the GIRTH on the side! ;)

Flame on, apparently...

trusmoka? Wow, what a groundbreaking and anti-stereotypical alias to have... I am not defending the cop, the HPD, or even Two Gallants. If you opened your fucking eyes and read a little deeper into what I was saying, you would understand that I was simply trying to curb some of the action/reaction that make people point to situations like this or Camp Bisco or Gathering of the Vibes this summer to say that we are all lawless, reactionary, and dangerously anti-establishment. Some of the comments on this story have fed into exactly that stereotype the same way the videos of the HPD officer feeds into your anti-police feelings.

I am not a cop, I'm not a bar owner, I'm not the person who called in a noise complaint about a bar on a Friday night. trusmoka, go fuck yourself and stop being such an ignorant and narrow-minded dousche-bag...

From C-Bean on Two Gallants Forums

Calls for letter writing are rarely heard, here's an easy way to get the HPD to see that people want to know what happened. Remember, the person getting your request is not the person you're angry at. As many requests for information for this incident will show that people aren't interested in letting it slide. Investigate for yourself. The following is in the format that the HPD ask for. Feel free to add what information you have.

How can there be a noise violation at a music venue, especially at the start of the show on a friday night? the whole thing sounds like a power trip from a cop who didn't like something one of the guys said to him. it was also reported that he accidentally tazered someone. i'm not quite sure how you "accidentally" do that. if this is truly what happened then he should be suspended for unecessary force and unlawful arrest.

People, please!! First off, look at how much energy has been wasted here calling each other pussies, dousch-bags, ignorant, etc. The fact is, every post on here is basically saying the same thing: The officer was in the wrong and something must be done about it. My question is this: Knowing that the Overseer, I mean Officer was in the wrong, how many times has it worked out in OUR favor when you "rise up" against the Police while in that situation? Hmmm, I would guess NEVER would be the answer. I understand Principles, Right-n-Wrong, heat-of-the-moment, all that stuff. But if the band, crowd and owner of the establishment had diffused the situation by acting calm and rational, do you think that the 14 year old CHILD would have been tasered. Do you think that with the video evidence that is out there, the evidence would look even more like us "Hippies" were calm, cool and collected, while the Cop was going ballistic. How would that look in court(where this case should be headed)? THAT would have made a HUGE point. Now, when the videos go into court and run through the media, it will definitely look like the Cop was in the wrong, but it will also provide some with the fodder that the COP was "scared for his safety" or "being attacked", even though that is not the case. Telling a police officer to "Fuck Off" or getting in their face to stand up for your rights NEVER helps in that situation. Had the band, audience and club owner handled things even a little differently, maybe everyone would have been able to enjoy the rest of the show, rather than being arrested, tasered and sent home early.

Winning the battle and winning the war are two completely different things. Winning the battle means you keep fighting. Winning the war means its over. The solutions were all laid out by those who have been fighting amungs themselves on this post: contact the HPD to voice your disgust, contact the media to push this into the public eye and most importantly VOTE!!!

Relevant is right... I have to apologize for being a tool earlier. I especially apologize to trusmoka, my bad. We should be focusing all of our collective energies on getting to the truth and ensuring that a situation like this, which happens everyday mind you, doesn't perpetuate more hate or further actions like it. We should all vote - right on ts. We should all write a letter or send an e-mail. We should also start our own nation-state... One based on rock shows and libertarianism.

Again, I want to apologize for being a dousche-bag myself. That's not really me. Sorry.

you can bet your ass if this was in philly the people in the crowd would have risen up and trucked this cop. all it takes it one good hard knuckle jab to the temple and this dude would have been out and too jolted to know who it was that hit him. seriously. fuck him. he know's his job is worthless and he makes no difference in society whatsoever. one day he's gonna mess with the wrong person and get his clock cleaned to where he has to retire early on disability. i'm all about peaceful good vibes in music but there is a line that is drawn in the sand that this cop crossed and when he's on disability in a wheelchair needing a nurse to wipe his ass and the drool off of his face becasue he started some shit with the wrong person, all of two gallants fans will sit back and laugh!

As I stated before, here is what can happen when abusive behavior by the police is met with aggression from the band and audience. Again, had everyone remained calm and not rushed and yelled at the Cop, there wouldn't be any possible way that this story could be spun as such.

Below is the link the an article that appeared in the Houston Chronical about the incident. It now appears to those who might never be in a sitation to witness such police behavior, will once again look at this as another example of "drunk hippies thinking they are above the law". People who were there need to stand up and get the TRUTH out there. Here's the link.

After having lived in Texas for 9 years I can say that the actions of the Houston Police Department do not surprise me. I just recently moved to Seattle to go to UW, and I cannot say I miss these aspects of Texas for which anyone who has lived in the state, or even visited, knows precisely what I am talking about. This whole situation brings to mind a little Hunter S. Thompson wisdom that seems both appropriate and useful: We cannot expect people to have respect for law and order until we teach respect to those we have entrusted to enforce those laws.

Was this officer trained by the "Idiot's Guide to Inciting a Riot"?

first one you saw.. these are new.. the tazer can be heard EVERYWHERE....

beyond a little aggressive... I am wondering what this guy is on. Beyond power tripping, I mean. This is so litigously and ethically and professionally out lf line. I assume legal stuff is in the works, but you may want to make nice by expunging this, coupled with firing that aggro freakshow you got that is BLATANTLY tazing people left and right. You can hear it all over the place.

And nice punch to the camera in the first one... umm.. it *IS* a different world now. People, as well as departments that are paid by taxpayers, are needing to be accountable for their actions.

Fire him. End this. I am not sure how you guys take this... laughing... seriously... concerned... or pass this around the office and have a laugh.

STRAIGHT UP: Rodriguez is a lousy cop and a weak minded person. Those people should not wield weapons.

that is absolutely the most appaulingly incredible incident i have seen in recent times. he's lucky it was a relatively peaceful crowd or he would have been MAULED !! who gives these lunatics guns (and tazers), let alone badges to hide their psychotic behavior writing to the houston police, i live in sc and have never even heard the two gallants but feel overwhelmed by this exemplary abuse of heartfelt apologies go out to the family with the two young kids as well as the rest did NOT deserve to go through that

i'm completely speechless. WTF? I'm in Austin...this Houston footage makes me want to vomit. What was the cop THINKING behaving in such a way? Oh wait, i suppose he wasn't thinking. It's merely proof that fear so is dangerous...You can see the fear in his eyes (likely because he's alone up there) as he scans the room in the first video i watched...

What with no video before the takedown, I am still in the air about where exactly to place the most blame. But what I can say is that after watching the first video, chronologically speaking, the officer in question used way too much force to bring Adam down...

The officer clearly lands on Adam with his full weight and I believe that Adam's guitar may have been in between them. This becomes more and more of a shame the more I read about it... There is a post in one of the links I posted earlier about how the noise in the neighborhood wasn't that bad. The fact remains that it was Friday night at a bar... I am very disappointed with the lack of a responce from the club owners and the HPD so far. This would never happen in Rock-chester (mainly b/c the city would be happy to have a show somewhere on a Friday).

ts - I love you kid.

heres a good lyric reference to the situation at hand:

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Mexican Cops are always dicks, they have small minds, plus they really are on a power trip (because they have small minds) I've had 3 one-on-one mexican cop encouters in my life and they were dicks in every one, one was even a childhood friend. I so wish you could assault officers in self defense, the only thing you can do is take your ass beating quietly then file civil suits later. One more thing, not just mexican cops but most cops suck dick. Here's some facts. A great portion of cops were once ex high school jocks and they still think they can bully people around. Another portion of cops are ex high school nerds that always got left behind and now they're on a power trip. I've also had bad experiences with these nerdy cop guys, they don't like me, they're jealous of me, so they bust my balls when they can. search you tube for cop vs. sheriff, this is a typical ex high school nerd. Another fact is that most of these ex-nerds (and some jocks) have fairly small penis's and flat out aren't very good in bed with their woman at home so they take their personal life frustrations out on the public; like this mexican cop did, he may have just had a fight with his girl. I grew up in a town that was 53% hispanic, I went to school and showered in locker rooms with mexicans and I never seen one with a big dick. they were all little. So the problem really is you have ex-high school jocks are still needing to fuel off that power trip that they never grew out of and and you got ex-nerds now on a power trip that they never have had and have trouble making judgements as a result. I must say, I've never seen an old cop beating the shit out of someone, it's usually young foolish men doing the damage that lack wisdom that you only get with age.

That's my take!

p.s. it sucks having a small pee pee
