Brokedown In Bakersfield :: 03.20.12 :: The Independent :: San Francisco, CA
Get downhearted when you flip on CMT or swing by commercial country radio? Well, there’s a delightful cure for this brand of blues in the form of Brokedown In Bakersfield, a group comprised of ALO’s Dan Lebowitz (pedal steel, guitar, vocals), Dave Brogan (drums, vocals) and Steve Adams (bass, vocals) with Nicki Bluhm (vocals), Tim Bluhm (acoustic guitar, vocals) and Scott Law (Telecaster guitar) that mines the riches from vintage Merle Haggard, Gram Parsons and other foundational country artists. With their busy schedules in their main bands this group only comes together occasionally, and this week they’re on their a California tour that concluces this weekend. You can still catch them at the following gigs:
Wednesday April 11 - Sierra Nevada Brewing Company - Chico, CA
Thursday April 12 - Harlow's - Sacramento, CA (with Paula Frazer)
Friday April 13 - Great American Music Hall - San Francisco, CA (with Paula Frazer & He's My Brother, She's My Sister)
Saturday April 14 - Crystal Bay Club - Crystal Bay, NV (supporting The Mother Hips)
A preview video for the Great American show with BIB doing Merle’s “Sing Me Back Home” is below this swell photo gallery from their Santa Cruz performance from last Friday, and you can read up on the band in detail in this review from their first tour last fall.
