At the end of the article on relix.com it says trey's band will likely feature: Tony Hall (bass), Raymond Weber (drums), Ray Paczkowski (keyboards), Christina Durfee (vocals) and Jennifer Hartswick (vocals).

There is definitely a reason "Big Red" is playing the little venues: Columbia dumped him (hence his own Rubber Jungle label) and he can't get the big sheds anymore, with this sub-par Trey Band "Lite".

That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing him in such an intimate venue as the Webster or Fox. Call me a hypocrite, but when are you ever going to get that chance again?!?

hell yeah trey in asheville...october in avl is shaping up to be an incredible month of music. and to all the trey haters, give the guy a break, he did the same thing for 21 years, he's allowed to do something different, and sometimes taking risks involves falling on your ass (i.e. Shine). He's still the same guy who we all know has the ability to melt you face off with the best of them. Don't bitch at a musician for playing different kinds of music.

I love Trey, but don't feel the need to see any of this tour
with the likes of WSP w/Herring,Flaming Lips, and BT all doing extensive fall tours. This lineup doesn't excite me(save for Ray),and the highlights of his shows will probably be guest appearances by members of Phish and the like. Why not stick with GRAB open up the song catalog, and expand on the foundation of what you built over the summer Trey? Its like he does'nt have an attention span.

give the dude a break. Phish is/was something VERY unique and very special. We're all extremely lucky to have been a part of it, and so is Trey. He's a talented songwriter and kick ass guitar player. Why can't you just leave it at that? He put his heart and soul into Phish for a loooong time, and now he's trying new things, looking for new ways to express himself. Get over it. There are so many things that deserve to be heavily scrutinized and deconstructed in this world--PSYCHEDELIC ROCK IS NOT ONE OF THEM.

Go see music you love, and let Trey worry about his own shit. Believe me: NOBODY IS MORE CRITICAL OF TREY THAN TREY. Unless you went to UVM with them, what most of us experienced with Phish was the result of massive amounts of experimentation, hard work, huge challenges and struggle... think about this: many people talk about how they're "old school" phish fans because they saw them in 1993--that was 10 YEARS into it. New musical endeavors take time to develop, no matter how good you are at your instrument.

Pardom me for being a dick, but 90% of the people leaving comments on this site just seem like major tools. Throw on some music you like, spark up a doob, and enjoy yourselves. The amount of energy I've seen wasted on criticizing Trey and his "huge ego" is absurd. For the record, since none of you have probably ever met the guy, you might take note of the fact that he's known far and wide amongst music industry folks to be one of the most thoughtful, kind, and generous people in the scene. Oh, and it takes an extraordinary amount of selflessness to create improvised music the way Trey can.

Why is it more to see Trey than it was to see Phish?? It ends up being about $45 dollars these days to see the guy. When I go see MMJ for $20 or The Duo for $15, $45 is just too much. Phish will always be my favorite band, but Trey and his solo material is loosing it's appeal with me with every passing year. It's depressing.

jcharlen...Nothing wrong with Trey going in a new direction, it's just that most people don't like the direction. Take Outkast for instance...their new Idlewild CD is completely different from anything they've done. But is it up to the caliber of any of their previous work? Not even close.

I think most people feel the same way with Trey, most of his solo material just doesn't HIT people like the music he created with Phish did. Is it bad music, hell no...is it ground-breaking, take-you-to-another-planet shit like Phish used to be? Not to me anyway. Maybe Burlap, Sack & Pumps rocks your world, but I'm moving on and will always have the memories...

There is no reason to criticize Trey for going in a different direction musically...that is what jam music is all about, in my opinion. What if Phish recycled Junta over and over? They wouldn't be the groundbreaking band they are/were if they did that, because the same stuff over and over gets old. Phish constantly pushed their own boundaries, if there ever were any to begin with, and it allowed for fresh material every album/show.

What is beautiful about this scene is the diversity of styles and the common philosphy of the artists. You can wake up with Tea Leaf Green and YMSB, rock out with UM and moe. all day, and dance your face off to the Duo and Bisco, all in one day. These bands don't have that much in common musically, but the philosophy of playing music for the sake of music and good vibrations among artists and the crowd is shared by everyone in the jam scene.

So before I really start to ramble, I'll put it clear and simple. Trey is doing exactly what he should be doing...experimenting, going in different directions, and ultimately it doesn't matter if it's good or not...

I'm not a fan of some of the artists in the jam scene, but I deeply respect all of them because I aspire to be a part of it someday...and as a musician, I know how it is to play the same stuff over and over, it gets boring really quick. Imagine playing YEM 1,000 times. Exactly.

Trey bashers are custys.

Get over it people -you're all really pathetic.

Hey brah, the people that are bitching about Trey probably never worshipped him, they probably worshipped Phish in general (I know I did). I personally feel that Trey is capable of so much more and that he is producing mediocre material, so if I want to bitch, I'm gonna bitch.

Try doing the same thing for 21 years and then doing something completely different on your own. But I guess you've already thought of that..

True music fans are fans through thick and thin...not here today, gone tomorrow.

Bitch all you want...and try growing up in the process

So True Music fans have to like what they honestly believe isn't any good,in order to stay a true fan? What a bunch of Crap.I don't think anyone is saying Trey hasnt been the Man.He has.I supported the breakup, and am for Health and happiness for Trey.I don't think Health and Happiness should be traded in so a band can continue to perform.ANY BAND!But Shine was lame. After all the material this man has created,if you think Shine was "exploring musical possibilites" you're a couple quarters short of a dollar.I don't see why people can't leave honest opinions as to where they think a musician is artistically on a Music website POST.Nobody's coming on here saying theyre better than Trey.Thats just foolish. As a matter of fact the only person who really slandered anyone on this page thus far was the guy calling people tools.Yeah, thats real constructive.Im of the opinion that Trey is one of the most important musicians of the last twenty five years. But his solo career is really lame.

what a bunch of bull its great trey is doing his thing but give it the credit it is worthy of if he was an up and coming star playing this stuff! would he get this hype. Lets not live in the past or the things he did with Phish. Lets live with what he is doing NOW!!!!! Is he using his talent to the best of his ability or is he just using something. Live for the future not the past

Trey couldve produced the crap he is producing now, like, "on the side",without having to break up Phish. Jerry did it quite successfully. Jerry didnt have to break up the Grateful Dead to pursue other musical interests/genres. Jerry explored all kinds of musical interests ( and drugs, haha) without compromising his loyalty to the dead and its fanbase. Also, for me, Trey's solo music definitely doesnt "melt your face", or whatever. Not that all music has to melt your face- but after all those years of pushing the limits of musical boundaries with phish, I am very bored with Trey's new style. YAWN....anyway, TAKE ME TO THE PANIC SHOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think "effort" is the key thing being debated here along with the element of band interaction, which often gets overlooked by everyone's emotional attachment to Phish. I am curious to see if this band is going to attempt "Goodbye Head" at all, because that chart would require more effort by far than anything 70VP has done in the past. It's complexity versus simplicity, and I think a lot of people would agree he is better at the former. I don't think GRAB was awesome because they sounded like Phish (though they kinda did), I think GRAB was awesome because it was finally a return to an elevated sense of band interaction that has taken a back seat in Trey's other projects. Basically, if he wants to go in that singer-songwriter direction, that's great, but don't expect it to keep my interest.

Oh, and I couldn't disagree more with the statement "There are so many things that deserve to be heavily scrutinized and deconstructed in this world--PSYCHEDELIC ROCK IS NOT ONE OF THEM." Art is art. Art gets criticized, especially if you are an already influential artist. Not everyone who criticizes Trey's current direction are "Trey Haters" and once again it's just that emotional attachment getting in the way. I think a lot of "haters" would agree it was probably a good idea to break up Phish even though they don't necessarily like everything that comes after.

I've been reading these comments and I agree that Trey is the man, I have been following Phish for about 13 years now. I've seen many Phish shows over the years that have blew me away, 33 to be exact. I didn't even go the last tour announcement, because I chose the Dead instead. I guess I was a little bitter. I have loved Phish for years and just watched the Live in Brooklyn DVD the other day and it ROCKS! Trey looked really happy, unless he was trying to be overly happy, but I couldn't help thinking that Phish is where he belongs. There is no band out there today that can compete with the energy and intensity of a Phish show. I was a big fan of GD/Jerry, prior to even listening to Phish, but eventually I got hooked, big time. I saw GRAB this summer and that was the best i've seen Trey since Phish. I saw the TAB and 40Volt Parade and they kind of bored me and was kind of predictable. As for Trey solo, the best thing he's done was his 99' tour, it was just trey, bass, and drums. That's all trey needs solo. I saw the show in Ashville 99' - awesome show, since then zzzzzzz. everything else is overkill. Trey does not need a rhythm guitar player. The thing about Phish, is that they were all equals and that is what makes them superior to anything else he's done. I understand getting his health in order and "cleaning up" the back stage, even though i wonder if hanging out with les claypool and kid rock helped that cause either. I think it is time to put all the bullshit aside and get Phish back together and I love you Trey, but if it's an ego thing, get over it. Trey is the best guitar player in the business today, but he needs 3 other guys from vermont that know him the best. they never disappointed me. i liked it back in the day where trey and page used to compete solos and i'm sorry but i love page, mike, and fishman. other than the grateful dead, i've never felt so strongly about any other band ever. i always loved the levels of intensity that would keep going up and up and up and then coming crashing down and then hit some funky ass beast, kind of like a killer antelope jam. If you're reading this Trey, I hope your health is back in order, because it's time to get the band back together and for real this time. That's where you belong. I also think these die hard 40 volt parade fans are kids that never got to see phish, at least not in it's prime. GRAB is cool and that has potential, but the Duo are a little off beat. As for playing with Mr. Phil Lesh, I will be there, because that is some seriouse shit. I also have tremendous love and respect for Mr. Lesh. Keep on Truckin'
