Arts & Crafts record label is proud to announce the release of The Dears' new album, Gang of Losers. Set for a late August release, Gang of Losers will follow up the critically acclaimed album, No Cities Left, which established The Dears as one of the most artful, revolutionary Canadian pop bands.
Gang of Losers, the third full-length release from the Montreal sextet, is a classic Dears album in terms of its complex musical and thematic range. However, unlike the previous Dears albums, Gang of Losers replaces an elaborately layered orchestral pop sound with meticulously crafted rock songs stripped to their bare elements.
For the first time in the group's history, Gang of Losers reveals the solidarity of a focused rock unit, despite its seemingly endless worldwide touring schedule.
Unlike their previous releases, which had massively layered of instrumental tracks, Gang of Losers was recorded in single takes in order to capture the band's onstage intensity, energy and spontaneity.
"Our dream was to do it live," comments bandleader Murray Lightburn. "One of the biggest inspirations to us in the approach of making this new album was some of the radio sessions we did while on tour. That nervousness and immediacy that happens when you play live - we wanted to bring that onto the record." Recorded in Lightburn's home in Montreal, production of the album was a collaborative effort by the entire band.
Containing four-minute songs highlighting the band's powerful songwriting, Gang of Losers moves from grinding guitar solos to ethereal vocals. Indeed, the best way to describe Gang of Losers is that it is a celebration of beautiful losers. With a stylized and cinematic scope, the new record fuses narrative and pop in a way that will certainly be praised for ambitious grandiosity.
