In support of her upcoming third album, Until We Felt Red, New York guitarist Kaki King is excited to announce a residency at The Living Room, where she will be performing new material every Wednesday night in July.

Over the last few years, Kaki has enjoyed the well-earned status as the zeit-girl of instrumental acoustic guitar; a gifted young ingénue closing rank on the canonized heroes of the genre. Now, with Until We Felt Red, out August 8th, she bests herself and defies expectation again—ditching her acoustic for an electric, lap steel and perhaps, the most unexpected instrument of all: her own voice.

Kaki, who has been known as a solo musician for the past few years, is also making another big change by performing many of her upcoming dates (including this residency) with an accompanying band. The permanent members are drummer Matt Hankle (whose Broadway and Off-Broadway work includes Blue Man Group) and keyboardist Jason Hart (who performs with Rufus Wainwright). Special guests will be joining Kaki as well for the shows at The Living Room.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Kaki King... Shame on you! I place a curse on the rear passenger wheel of what ever vehicle you are driving… May it become deflated an infinitesimally small amount, so much so that it is totally unnoticeable and not dangerous whatsoever, but still slightly deflated, that is until you familiarize yourself with this amazing musician. Her virtuosic playing style is built on the shoulders of giants like Preston Reed and Michael Hedges yet she is so grounded, humble and characterized by an artistic sense of humor. You should really go out and give Kaki King’s music a listen, and even better if you can see her live (it is astounding to watch her perform her craft live)… your ears will thank you, I’m sure Kaki will thank you, and your rear passenger tire will thank you.

I can't wait for this new album, its produced by John Mcentire in SOMA, it has to be good. King is an amazing technical artist on the acoustic, but this new album is going to show a more dynamic side to Kaki, and honestly has me more excited than the idea of another slap and tap excursion.

Its produced by McIntire. (spelling not right) The man is a fuckin genius. If anyone has not checked out Tortoise you should really get into their album "It's All Around You."

Hey Kaki, congrats on the new project. All of us here in the TR camp wish you the best and miss you very much. Small world, I have toured with Jason Hart when he played with Keren Ann. I also did one of his solo performances whe he was opening for Marillion. Terribly small world, but obviously not small enuf since I haven't seen you in person in quite a while. Hope we cross paths soon! Email me!
