In support of her upcoming third album, Until We Felt Red, New York guitarist Kaki King is excited to announce a residency at The Living Room, where she will be performing new material every Wednesday night in July.
Over the last few years, Kaki has enjoyed the well-earned status as the zeit-girl of instrumental acoustic guitar; a gifted young ingénue closing rank on the canonized heroes of the genre. Now, with Until We Felt Red, out August 8th, she bests herself and defies expectation again—ditching her acoustic for an electric, lap steel and perhaps, the most unexpected instrument of all: her own voice.
Kaki, who has been known as a solo musician for the past few years, is also making another big change by performing many of her upcoming dates (including this residency) with an accompanying band. The permanent members are drummer Matt Hankle (whose Broadway and Off-Broadway work includes Blue Man Group) and keyboardist Jason Hart (who performs with Rufus Wainwright). Special guests will be joining Kaki as well for the shows at The Living Room.
