Fox Theater :: Atlanta, GA

Widespread Panic at Atlanta's Fox Theatre, now that my friends, is a good time. With the release of their remarkable new album (really folks, their best in years) Earth To America coming out June 13, the Panic machine is an exciting beast. It's been a while since band and fans alike have had this much to celebrate. Enjoy the photos from the Fox and be sure to catch the six-headed monster next chance you get.

Nice pics. I don't mean to sound negtive but I just don't get these guys. Is it the scene that people are attracted to? I just can't find anything unique or memorable about their songs and I've tried over the years to give them a good listen. To each their own I guess. Obviously they are spreading good vibes so that is always good. I miss The Grateful Dead. peace.

I have a question, why does JB talk that way on stage? I've heard him speak off stage and he sounds totally different. Is it because his hammered or just his "stage voice"? Anyways loved the shows! Panic never lets me down. BE FUN HAVE GOOD!

To answer "tboneaplenty's" question about JB's 'stage voice.' Having spent a good deal of time around him and interviewing him I can assure you it's not booze or anything like that. The raspy, trade-mark John Bell voice is more a way for him to embrace his role as Band Leader (something he doesn't like to admit). Not sure if I'm explaining that right; and i don't think it's something he really thinks about. Sometimes in conversation 'the voice' will show up as well. It's part of JB the performer. Anyway, figured I'd respond.

To respond to the comments made by jackiesoup, my take on WSP is that there songs speak to people, "who get it", with powerful imagery and content. There "scene" brings joy and happieness, but their songs can be dark and sullen too. Like Jerry Joseph said in TEWSY, "the dark and the light and they have soul..." I've seen them over 30 times and never once did I see a fight or any problems. I've been listening to them since I was a freshman in high school and now i'm in my thirties. All my friend's and I grew up on Panic and feel the same way about the scene. We are all from South Georgia originally. So maybe we are a little biased being from the South, BUT I live in Colorado now and they still move people out here as well when I see them play. Whether it be Red Rocks or some other cool venue. Rock on PANIC!!!!!

jakiesoup, hey its not for everybody, and some hate b/c of the simplicity, i understand, but it is rock n roll, it is supposed to be simple, and no memorable song, have you ever heard vacation w/ your signifigant other standing next to you, and yes it is corny but 40,000 people yelling yeehaww in unison is pretty cool too. the raps and jokes of the JB personality, arleen/ribs. everybody dances w/ familiar grace... and everbody cheersing each other, for mee the more i see them, the more i want to go to the next show, anyhow whatever tickles your fancy, find your favorite and enjoy them...and yes MILESGONE i think about it alot. when they quite.....lets not even talk like that.
peace and panic

honestly, that pic of the mad scientist, aka: Sonny, is probably the picture I've ever seen of him during performance...and better than a lot of 'studio' shots I've seen, too. Nice work...props to your bad self

Don't let any of the critics fool you, Panic is one of the best bands in america. Every member is awesomely accomplished in their role and they seem to have a siginificant lack of ego which lends itself to sublimely thick full band jamming. Just check out 11/01/03 at MSG or 10/26/05 Tuscon two of the best concerts I've ever seen (or for some pre-george action listen to "Live in the Classic City")If you're skipping Panic you're missing out, but I'd be thrilled to seem them at more small venues.

The 1st 6 or 7 times I saw Panic, I thought they were good but nothing special. Was more of an opportunity to go to a show with all of my friends. At the time, I would have much rather saw Phish or Phil or Bobby.....
Then I saw them at High Sierra. The power went out during the 2nd or 3rd song. That band hung around on stage for a few until the power came back on. When they started the Blackout Blue's, I had never seen THAT band play before. Everything changed from that moment on and haven't been the same since. Can't put my finger on it at all.
It is/are these types of moments that make music great. The scene, the friends, the venues, etc simply add to the fact that the MUSIC found something inside you to grab hold of. I never LOVED Phish like some people do and I know that some don't LOVE Panic as much as I do. The more you try and find the answer "Why" the further from it you get. Just try and keep on HAVIN' A GOOD TIME...........

Thanks for the great pics! Show number 11 and 12 for me and once again Panic does it for me like no other band can do. The crowd is awesome, the scene is incredible, but all that is just added bonus, it’s really about the music. The sound they create becomes an entity all its own that assaults the senses and penetrates the soul. Spontaneous yet connected, full of raw energy and grit, and honesty that is rare these days. JB's soulful voice brings it all home. I think part of the magic is their ability to take you from one extreme to the other. Soft and sweet one minute to crazed madness the next. Happy thoughts one minute to dark and dirty the next. They go everywhere, while keeping it flowing. I get so excited every time I hear them that I can’t be still and I can’t stop smiling. Looking around me at the show I notice they have that effect on a lot of people! The vibe they spread is freaking awesome! The music they give us is a gift to be treasured. In my opinion, Panic is the best live band performing today by far!!!!
Peace and Music :)

Great pics.up in NY and havent had opportunity to see my friends from Georgia since they returned, but have downloaded some shows of LvWSP and they continue to progress w/George,and I find you can hear JB in the mix on these recordings. For those wondering what makes Panic such an attraction..Id mention 3 things that make them so unique ans special...Schools is a monster, mixing his riding the neck trickery with solid playing,JB's presence, his voice is amazing and his personality on stage
is soooo compelling, and Sunny, there are few musicians out there that when you say what theyre position in the band is (ie Victor Wooten is the bassplayer in the Flecktones)it really cant explain to somebody what they do.Sunny is in that group...people just have to see him in action for themselves.

Great pics. Listened to this show numerous times recently. The crowd was one with the band. They sang every lyric of every song. Even rare tunes like slipping into darkness. During Mercy you can hear the crowd harmonizing the chorus while Randall's sax solo adds the perfect melody. The only other band have I ever heard create synergy with a crowd in a similial fashion was the Grateful Dead.

This show is on fire. The second set is one of the finest live musical performances to date. If you don't get WSP and want to give it a try, check out this show. You will not regret it. Schools bass playing during this show is legendary. I wish I could have been there. They felt the love in Atlanta.

Summer tour is going to crazy. Live long and lucky and get those tickets before they are gone. 4th of July Lake Tahoe-yeehawwww!!!!! Oh my god!!! Keep it cranking boys! You set the standards.

Good pictures > but theses shows sucked
I have been folling this band since '93 and I have given George 4 years to get it together. Sorry guys its not happening anymore. For example listen to Thought Sausage or
Pigeons (from the Fox'06) they are horrible
compare them to when Mikey played
I can't believe what they have done to some of the most sacred music ever created
