I can't imagine moe. having the best performance of the year. I wasn't there, but I've never been impressed by moe. There noodling is very pointless and doesn't progress the song. But hey the Jammy employees are professionals and I'm sure they have seen alot more shows than me, I'll trust them. All the other choices look very solid to me.

moe. wasn't the strongest performance of the year, but it was a very solid performance and they were also raising money for a very good cause, The Tsunami Benefit. I think the performance along with raising money for a good cause is surely reason enough for them to have recieved the honor.

My last moe experience wasn't spactacular or anything but I know those guys have it them, good job! For those who think moe just noodles all the time, check out the first "warts and all" or and I think you might discover what the jammy judges see in them. Congrats to all the winners. What a job those jammy employees have.

The Tsunami Benefit tapes are sick. I know Moe. has there sound and are NOT gonna change it, but those guys have developed a nice collection of awards and worked on many good causes...props to Moe. (keep the Afro wigs!!!)

The reason for best live show was judged solely on one thing. And that this is>>>>>>>

Did EVERYONE miss the Flaming lips' doc, FEARLESS FREAKS!?!?! I like scorsese but Bradley Beesley blows him out of the fucking water with this one. With over twenty years of home footage, amazing interveiws, and a STORY releveant to anybody who watches, Beesley put together possibly the best music doc of all time!!!! Scorsese's film was just a bunch of concert footage he didnt' even shoot, and a several really half-assed interveiws, only to just end after two and a half hours, as if the day Dylan got in a motorcycle crash his life, his STORY was over???? I mean it's sad that 3 6 mafia has more oscars than scorsese, but i thought the jammy's are about the art, not the name behind it??? WATCH FEARLESS FREAKS!

Theses are some of jammy's worst picks they have ever had. Has anyone even listened to kicking television. I love it and I hate Wilco. Did anyone watch the Les DVD. For the studio it should have been Bright Eyes folk album, did you guys here the the song with jim james from mmj. Give me a break. Where is The Duo wins and Pnuma. Grace Potter won over Pnuma. Pnuma is the future of music. WHo Is Grace Potter I have never even heard of her. The Duo didn't get one award. sounds like to me that the show sucked and all the main stream "jambands" won there awards. Panic suck and the only reason they won was because the are the biggest jamband around right now. Frat boys and drunk girls glorify PAnic like their Gods, when really there just one step away from Lynard Skynard. Phish that is a worthy win, and Moe are also worthy. Pnuma should have got ne groove and if not Pnuma then at least Green Lemon. God help the JAmband wolrd when are festivals include The Flaming Lips and Clap your hands and say yeah. When a the headliner for Bonnoroo is Beck and Deathcab for Cutie. Go Biscuits, because they still keep it original and STS9 as well. I wish G MUle and Panic would shut up and let real music be heard. That my story and I'm sticking to it.

Tea Leaf Green Tea Leaf Green Tea Leaf Green. Can't say enough about these guys. They are the spark that the genre has been seeking for a while. Glad that they have recieved recognition for song of the year. These guys don't simply "noodle" around or dabble in pointless jams; instead they have thought provoking song writting to go along (as is evidenced by them winning song of the year). Tea Leaf Green picks up where others before them left off.

coontheBrain, bisco is a good band, but there is more to jamming than seeing who can play the best techno music with real instruments, sorry those frat boys scare you away from panic but next time you make a public statement, sober up and check your grammar. Looks like a 6th grader made that post. As for Mule and Panic you keep doin' what yer doin', There arn't many folks out there with opinions like coonthebrain's.

biscoonthebrain, first of all look up the rule on the use of "their, there and they're". second of all, think before you speak. bisco is decent at best, and "drunk frat boys" at UPenn are the reason they are even popular. Second of all, before you diss Beck and the Flaming Lips listen to their music. They incorporate a lot of the same elements of the disco biscuits, but they do a better job of it. Panic and Mule are legitimate old school rock with amazing musicians, and Bisco uses Ace of Base samples. And I have heard of Grace Potter, but I've never heard of Pnuma. Stop dissing music you don't know, and work on your grammar.

Its an all around solid show, aside from the fact someone else brought up about a good cause and what not. also biscoon... do you think its possible even though a "band you've never even heard of" could be better than one you like?

Since the musical experience is an entirely subjective one, I would say that the individuals who make the decision about jammys awards made that decision based on their own experiences and understanding of the community. if you personally prefer southern rock over trancefusion, thats fine, and most acts which are considered a part of this site will dominate most musical acts in general. i am most grateful to have knowledge of jambase, archive, etree, and the rest of it. i'm not familiar with the specific moe performance, but anything with medeski (and trey) playing together is bound to transcend normal musical undertakings. as for bisco, they rule your face, and thats that. most original band out there, seriously if you can't get with it, then please re evaluate your life. its fine if you dont get it, but , ehh, nevermind. joseph

Why are so many folks hatin' on the Disco Biscuits? There isn't another band in our scene that rolls like them. There are bands with similar styles, but they are very unique in the way they conduct themselves on stage & in the studio. I find it hard to understand why there is so much negativity in our community toward other bands. Music lifts me to heights that I never thought were possible. Who cares what band gets the next person off as long as they are getting off? I am not trying to preach but I dont care if you love PANIC or TDB as long as it makes your day, month or year!

first off i wanna say the jammys look so fun w/ the combinations, second off some of you people need to learn how to say "in my opinion". i would also like to a make a couple points; im my opinon panic is the best by a long shot , or perhaps i should say the give ME that musical high that we go to shows for, after that i love other stuff before the rest of the wsp circuit(tishingmo NMAS outformation ect.) UM AND bisco and moe in no perticular order are my second fav. now: IMO that moe benefit was deffinately one of the best shows of the year, meat w/ trey... nuff said. i love the biscuits music,BISCOONTHEBRAIN but keep in mind that the are the self proclaimed, i am quaoting "best band in the world" and have been talking alot lately at taking it to another level , like being able to play MSG but the fan base is so unwelcoming to newcommers. i hear you ON THE lameness of how many frat boys are at panic shows but most of them just arent hometowners gettin loaded, a lot of them like the music, the crowd in raleigh was awesome everybody was introducing themselves and gettin along, bottom line if you find that one band that tickles your fancy, good for you see them as much as possible, dont hate on newbies, and when a guest in another circuit just be nice and nobodys difference in aperarance shouldn ruin the music for you right? one last thougt i missed the big summer classic but im sure that was SICK everynite, everyone enjoy their band of choices' summer tours and if anyone has any of the 06 amsterjam stuff pleas seed it somewere, it isn't on archive

I also have to agree with Biscoonthebrain that jam fests (such as Bonnaroo) have sold out, it won't be long before Bonnaroo is chock full of barbie doll high school girls and lame ass jocks. WSP deserves a jammy. For all of you who don't think so ask yourself this question: Why does Panic sell out large arenas and the bands I think are so much better have a hard time sellingout a 2-nite run at a small theater? Because you are one of the few who thinks your band is better. Some of you people should get a life instead of hating on people for liking a certain band. That is the attitude the mainstream take. If that is your attitude go over to mtv.com and chat with people who are like you. Just leave this site for people who are really fans of the jamband movement.

I'm pretty surprised I haven't heard a word about the lack of awards for my morning jacket, seeing as they were nominated in just about every category. This band is amazing and deserves recognition, but maybe they've just got to stick around awhile longer. Certainly they were well represented on the best of 2005 list on this and many other music sites. Their newset album sounds like radiohead crossed with Neil Young and Crazy Horse. If you haven't already checked it out, do yourself a favor.
And as for the never-ending jamband war between the southern/rootsy scene and the urban/electro scene (insert the dead vs. phish, panic vs. bisco, NMA vs UM, etc.) just get the fuck over it and go see the music you enjoy, and maybe stretch your boundaries once in a while. I know I just started liking panic again after having a pretty strong dislike for the past 6 or 7 years. Just had a great time at a show my friend practically had to drag me to. Who would've thought. So just have some tolerance and don't worry about who's better or who deserves the 'jamband' label. I mean, this is all so subjective. Fuck, who's better- Bethoven, Woody Guthrie, or Hendrix? ya know? Just enjoy it and spread the love. Sorry for the rant but these endless posts need to stop.

Not liking a particular jamband does not make me not a "fan of the jamband movement." I just don't feel that WSP deserves a jammy. I made the mistake of paying to see those old fogeys and ended up leaving during setbreak after I woke up from my nap. Bands like UM, SCI, and STS9 are pioneers, they do things no other jamband has ever done. The talent in one of Jake Cinninger's fingers is 10 times the talent of all of WSP.

First of all, too all those people who keep talking about how much WSP sucks, you can screw off, along with people talking crap on the other bands that one, HOWEVER, even though PNUMA didn't win, they are still probably one of the best up and coming bands that there are today. They just need a guitarist to compliment Botwin and the drummer and bassist. The few times they played in Lawrence, their shows were exceptional with the addition of Matt Gader on guitar. I highly recomend checking them out (I am not in any way saying though that the band that won new groove of the year didn't deserve it, but I am saying that Pnuma deserves more recognitio)

For all u idiots out there who still haven't come to respect WSP for what they've done to for the whole jamband get ur head out of ur @ss. They do deserve a jammy for live album b/c from the guys whoever do all their mixing to the musicians themselves they put every ounce of hard work their worn souls have to offer into what they do for a living. Which is more than I can say for some other of these so-called talented musicians, I wont name names but certain guys who used to back a pretty big band called ph@!h, who takes all his fans for granted and quite frankly he couldn't entertain a friggin' morgue. Why don't u no taste havin fools go down to ur local tower records pre-order the new John Mayer cd or 3 doors down, and get ur @ss out of our amazing and still respectable scene. WSP is an amazing story of a group of guys who recovered from one of the most devastating occurences in our musical generation. And they did it with style and grace, in the middle of a summer tour. Who else has done that. I know Bisco but it took them almost a year to recover. And how do they do that they cant even sell out Earthlink Live in ATL or the catalyst in Santa Cruz. I appreciate the hell out of Bisco but the truth is the truth. If this ticked anyone off meet me in Tahoe on the 4th of July to see some WSP in one of the coolest venues in one the scenic and soul-relaxing parts of the world

First of all Congrats to all the bands that won. What I don't get is all the bickering as to which band "deserves" to win and which don't. Music is too personal and subjective for awards like this. True, it is nice to give recognition to bands that have been tearing it up but does the award really mean anything. What I like and is appealing to my ear doesn't mean everyone will like it. That's Ok. You would think in a community such as ours different views and opinions would be tolerated. If you don't like a band don't listen to them, but don't knock someone who does. There is someone out there that doesn't like your favorite band. So try out some new music just don't talk smack if you don't like it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Remember someone put their heart and soul into the music they're playing. Thanks for listening and keep the groove alive.

Grace Potter is a phenomenal singer with a great back up band, all from Burlington Vermont, winning all the local awards that phish won and began their career with.
Seriously ripping on bands you don't like is just so worthless, honestly be more constructive with your time, like anybody gives two shits that you like the biscuits more than wsp, or you think pnuma got robbed, get a f*cking life....

Music is what insulates us from a sometimes cruel and cold world. It warms us it soothes us and it communicates with our souls. It brings us together in celebration and comforts us in dark times. Everybody is entitled to a favorite....and your going to have to let people have one.
Stop with the hate...there is more than enough airspace for all this music.

It amazes me that people think Bisco, Umphrees and Cheese are on the same level as Panic. Panic sold out four nights at the fillmore in Denver in less than 5 minutes ( I would know, I slept outside for 20 hours to get my tickets after seeing Mule in FoCO). Bisco didn't even sell out the same venue a few months later. Cheese's new stuff sucks and Big Summer certainly wasn't the best show I saw all summer, I saw at least 3 better shows at Bonnaroo alone. And has anyone heard that "Papa's Home" off the Myrtle Beach disc? If you've ever heard it live, that version is a perfect example of why they deserved the Best live album award...I'm pissed Panic is coming east this summer, but they're worth the trip anywhere, unlike Bisco and Cheese.

it amazes me too that people would think that panic is on the same level as bisco and sts9. they are two different styles within the scene, but bisco and sts9 are WAY better. if you look at who is better by ticket sales, then i hate to say youd probably like ashlee simpson because she sells more tickets and cds than panic. as far as the music goes, bisco and sts9 do things and go places in the jam panic could never go. as far as the scene goes, there are too many newbies and drunk rednecks at panic for my liking...

As for all of you that diss Panic, I just feel sorry that you can't feel the energy and love at their shows, but if something else is cool for you, go for it. I believe that JB and the boys have more soul than I have ever heard expressed musically.
Peace, love, and PANIC!!!!

let's give some credit where it is due, to the pioneers and inovators rather than people who are just doin the same fuckin thing phish and sci did for years.

tDB, STS9, pnuma, bp, lotus---> now there are some 'jam-bands' that are actually pushing the limits and opening up new doorways with every show they play, something they do a hell of a lot more than some other bands.

The younger generation doesn't give a flying u know what about the old-school and their extended downfalls because nobody wants to fuckin hear that shit anymore!!!!

lets recognize the electronica people, it = the future

Some great music, really enjoyed the Zappa pieces, well done by the performers, certainly not easy material, but why oh why did the security have to be such nazis about people havin a smoke, they schedule the damn show for 4-20, let people enjoy a buzz instead of having to scramble around trying to find somewhere cool to blaze. I found a spot myself but saw a few people hassled and removed, they shouldn't schedule it on 4-20 unless the bands are going to make a little stand and ask security to give people a break.

It's funny reading these post to notice where all the hateful remarks are coming from. They mostly seem to be bashing Panic, and the bashing is done by Disco, STS9 and Pnuma fans. I wonder if the band members are the same way? Would they be proud of their fans disrespectful remarks? I'm glad you all have a band that you dig, but why must you trash a fellow music lover's band? To all you fellow Spreadnecks out there bashing other bands, I have to ask you why? BE FUN HAVE GOOD!

Who gives a woolly rats @ss if you think TDB's, STS9, Moe. WSP, or Gmule is the better band. These guys are all great at what the do. I have to admit that PANIC is not as good as they as were B.G. (before George for those of you who are too young to have seen the REAL PANIC) but, the energy at the show is still great. Yes I hate all of the drunk frat guys & all of the molly poping teenagers at the shows. But, I also know that's part of what makes "our community" so great. We get to meet some really wonderful people that, w/o all of these great bands we would probably never even talk to.
I've been belessed to be able to see some of the best musicians in the scene share the stage with WSP & it was & still is GREAT!!! I'm sure that some of you Disco, STS9 & Moe. fans can say the same. I'm glad to see that you love "your band". Keep going to see them, but open up your mind a little and realize the grim fact that there are more great bands out there.

Opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one!

With that being said I'll get off of the soap box now and leave all of you beautiful people with some words of wisdom for the day,
"It's all about the music & it alwasy sets you free!"

First of all, thank God (or whomever you believe in) for The Jammy's. It should be televised. As far as the music, that moe show...simply amazing.I've been in game for a decade plus and yet to hear a combonation like that fit so well. And for the band haters(one who hates on other bands)get real job or something.WSP or G Mule arent candy to my ears by no means, but i give them props for being musicians. But DB,STS9,MMW,and moe. are on top of the jam game and will be until PHISHv2.0 comes back. Be Ware

The bashing of bands (WSP, STS9, SCI, Phish, Bisco, or whoever) deterred me from the "jam" scene in the first place. If every band ripped electronic grooves like STS9 or "rocked out" like WSP then diversity within the scene would cease to exist. After all, diversity is a common concept many of "us" are so inclined to endorse. Basically, music lovers should unite and encourage the bourgeois, working class, and aliens alike to be a part of OUR scene.

all of you people hating on panic need to stick it and go listen to biscit and UM noodle around. as for me I am going to catch 13 panic shows this year by the end of summer tour, including the FOX in ATL and STL, chicago theater, 3 nights @ the red rocks (where they already hold the record for most sell outs), ect... all of which you can guarantee are going to sell out, b/c unlike other bands the only thing panic sells out is concert venues.

First off, good call sethj. in my world Panic moe. and Yonder Mountain are the best bands on the scene. I havent heard a jam band that i absolutely dont like, green lemon gets close and umphreys can noodle around to much on occasion. I love panic but i wasnt all that impressed with live at Myrtle Beach, but honestly all of these bands are better live than on a disc, right. Thats the whole reason we go see live music.

Easy, children. while we're online fighting over this band and that band, and the future of music, the musicians are out there practicing, gigging, travelling, or smokin a nice fat one. The future of music doesn't come from one band. it comes from the musicians and music lovers listening to, and sharing music from around the world- the "good" and the "bad." It's a collective process fueled by both the musicians and the fans. It's all good. just relax and enjoy it. the Jammy's, grammy's, oscars and whatever else sometimes give people a false sence of competition within the music world. That doesn't exist to the artist. Especially those artist who are fortunate enough to achieve success on a level where they can do what they do, make a living, and not worry about paying rent... If I may chime in on the bands... Where's the love for Antibalas in all of this?
P.S. take Mickey Hart's collective at Grand Central on 4-21 for example. Mike Gordon and a cast of great musicians leaving the stage with percussion and breaking down the barrier between band on stage and audience... that is Love, and what this thing is all about. Peace

all i have to say is the roseland show would have been nothing without the guests. the show should have been billed as John Madeski, Trey Anastasio, Moe., and friends. If you listen to the disk, the crowd is the most into it during Night Speaks. The crowd absolutly blows the roof off of roseland during this tune. Also, if you listen to Meat and Buster, you can hear Trey and Madeski make a mockery of Moe.'s tunes. AL is completely blown away by Trey when he "tries" to answer him back at the end of Meat. He looks like a child. Moe. is a good time, and I respect them for contributing to our scene, however, they are nothing more than an over-hyped bar band that peaked about three years ago. They have to perform with disgusting guests in order to make any noise. On a sidenote... I'm not a huge fan of the Panic scene, however, Panic kicks ass hardcore. If you listen the thier Vegoose late night gig, they play one of the greatest "Superstitious" covers I've ever heard a band play. Not to mention, the rest of thier set was amazing. Listen to the music before you run your mouth.

I used to listen to widespread when I was a youngin (highschool). Its this simple... they are a southern rock band laballed as a "jam band" but they really do no jam at all. Yes they play good music, but none of it is improvised whatsoever except for a couple guitar solos here and there. I've seen seen them twice and they were good, BUT NOT LIVE ALBUM OF THE YEAR GOOD! I think the jammy judges really need to see that the "jam" genre has evolved to something new. The most important judge and criteria for a bands influence and talent is the crowds reactions to the music. Its all about the energy. Phish brought it. At there shows the whole crowd was into the music like no other band. And by "into it" I mean dancing hard for four hours straight. The phish of today is disco biscuits, plain and simple. In the next decade they will no doubt blow up. After seeing them twice on there spring tour, I can safely say there is no band like them out today.

Whar's happenin folks? Just wanted to tell a story. I'm in the bathroom, its the 2nd night of VEGOOSE, and I hear from a Phish fan "I can't believe I have to sit through a whole set of Panic to close out the show". I turned wearing the Panic shirt I bought in 1996 in Providnece RI, where I saw the real panic, the Panic that made you physically and mentally exhausted after a show, and the only reason I bought a shirt was because I needed one that was dry, anyway, I said I don't get it to myself, what's up with people and Panic, is everybody deaf? Whatever, I returned to enjoy me some Panic, and half way through an amazing first set, I returned to the bathroom, and I ended up taking a leak next to some dude on his cell phone talkin to his buddy saying how if he had to describe the set so far he would have to compare it to a 25 minute earthquake. I was happy at this point and thought to myself, I love Panic Fans, there like no other, and can appreciate all music, but know phenomanal music when they hear it, not just looking for escape routes, but actually listening to what an artist has put together. Jazz is Jazz, improv is improv, being spun is beign spun, but you could go see Panic anywhere, and they could play for anybody, at any time. Peace!

it was said that trey made al look like a child or somthing like that at the relife show. if so thats fine he is trey, anyway who really rips more al or chuck? id say chuck and the new years shows in nc confirmed it for me.
