Zen Tricksters, along with Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay and Heart of Gold Records, are working on the final stages of a live double CD release of their Rex Black Tie-Dye Ball, taped last November at the New York Society for Ethical Culture. The live CDs of this event, the first Rex Foundation Benefit ever performed in NYC, will be sold on the Dead.net store, on both the Rex Foundation page and Donna Jean's page, and all proceeds after production costs will go to the Rex Foundation.
The 11/12/05 Black Tie-Dye Ball featured The Zen Tricksters with Donna Jean, David Nelson, Tom Constanten, Rob Barraco, Michael Falzarano, Greg Anton, David MacKay, Wendy Lanter, and a special appearance by Mickey Hart. The album, titled FOR REX: THE BLACK TIE-DYE BALL, is being prepared for a late May release.
The Tricksters and Donna Jean will also be touring throughout the spring and summer, along with Mookie Siegel of the David Nelson Band and Phil Lesh & Friends, and Wendy Lanter from Hope in Time, as Kettle Joe's Psychedelic Swamp Revue. They debuted earlier this month at River Street Jazz Café in Plains, PA and Mexicali Blues Café in Teaneck, NJ and have upcoming shows at River Bend Festival in Chattanooga, The 8 x 10 in Baltimore, The Gathering III in Pulaski, Gratefulfest at Nelson Ledges Quarry Park, the Oregon Country Fair, and The Canal Room in NYC, among others. Their repertoire includes originals by Donna Jean and the Tricksters, as well as tunes from Donna Jean's tenure with the Grateful Dead and the Jerry Garcia Band.
