It's not a life-and-death thing by any means, but I find it a bit odd that the selected finalists seemingly have nothing to do with the parameters laid out in the initial contest release. In that, entrants were asked to come up with something that related to the band's taste for funk while paying homage to New Orleans.

Citing the original contest post, "The band hopes that their new name will reflect the nature of the music that they are making (pure and unadulterated funk!), and perhaps honor New Orleans, the home of many musicians and a home away from home for many others."

Admittedly, I may be missing some clever allusions in the listed name options, but the whole thing makes me wonder if a.) the band had a change of heart, b.) the band's management misread the band's desires, or c.) if this was just a hollow publicity ploy. Hopefully, it's one of the first two.

yeah... they are pretty bad... but, then again, what's in a name as long as you bring the ooey, gooey, dirty funk??

How did "The Soapmakers" not make the cut. These names aren't very good.

I liked their original name WAY better than these suggestions, but if I had to go with one, I guess maybe...

Essential Assembly?

I was kind of thinking "Crescent City Juice". Sounds almost as funky as the stuff in the gutters and fits the original guidelines.
