Tone Center 4047 :: May 9 Release date

Steely Dan

More than a tribute, this all-star lineup reimagines 10 Steely Dan classics as jazz-rock fusion instrumental jams.

Produced by Jeff Richman, who organized previous fusion all-star salutes to John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and The Mahavishnu Orchestra for Tone Center, the set streets on May 9.

Without a doubt, Richman morphed these cats into a fantastic band.

Special guest guitarists include:

  • Robben Ford on "Peg"
  • Steve Morse on "Bodhisattva"
  • Jay Graydon on "Home at Last"
  • Al DiMeola on "Aja"
  • Steve Lukather on "Pretzel Logic"
  • Mike Stern on "Dirty Work"
  • Jimmy Herring on "The Fez"
  • Frank Gambale on "FM"

just saw donald fagen at the tower. hoping he gets back with walter in the summer. The show was short, the crowd was old but the music is just jaw dropping. i'd always thought the jams were never long enough considering their jazz rock grooves seem prime for exploration. This cd hopefully hones in on that aspect of the group.

wow this looks fantastic! the core band looks sweet and the fact that they got the who's who of pro guitarists should make this one very tasty.

fans of steely dan should definatley check out Smokestack. these guys rip three or four Steely Dan numbers with some regularity; among them are kid charlemagne, green earrings, and bodhisattva, as well as the occasional josie. a few weeks ago, Smokestack performed the album 'the royal scam' in it's entirety as a major chunk of the first set of their 3-10 performance's. highlights were sign in a stranger and the fez, along with the always ripping kid char. the Stack has over 100 shows on available for streaming and/or download. you can also stream a show off their website anytime at so check it out!

I completely agree GregRN. DiMeola totally rips. My buddy got me into him years ago. Good to see him joining in on a tribute to such a "underrated" band - Steely Dan.

Mike Stern is one of the greatest guitarists of our time. Do yourself a favor and check out "Play", "Is What It Is", and "Voices" just to name a few. I'm really dissapointed that Wayne Krantz didn't get a tune on here as he actually played with the Dan for a short time. I'm looking forward to hearing the album.

i never said anything about myself nor did i imply it. i was just voicing my opinion on the comment made before about trey not being on this record. does everyone who critiques music/musicians have to be better than the critiqued subject in order for their opinion to be valid?
