When two musical voices of this stature decide to do a few dates together, it seems worth making sure that everyone is aware of what's going on. There are two reasons you should care that Stereolab is touring. For starters, their records are pretty fucking amazing, and they were one of the more influential bands to come outta the '90s. The manner in which they deliver their tasteful melodic space-pop with heavy doses of Krautrock and total attention to the sonic landscapes they are creating should be reason enough. The other reason you should care is that in 2002, Stereolab vocalist and guitarist Mary Hansen was tragically killed in a cycling accident. The band was determined to push on and most certainly has, but if you haven't seen them of late, you may be missing out on a truly wonderful band. And furthermore, it's always nice to see how folks rebound to adversity in their life/career. It's often the breeding grounds for the greatest of art - so go see Stereolab.

Sam Prekop

The other artist we're talking about is Sam Prekop. Best known for his work with Chicago's chillest lounge-pop act, The Sea and Cake, Prekop will be touring major markets with bandmate Archer Prewitt on guitar. Sam Prekop toured the states last summer for the first time in five years for the release of his second solo album, Who's Your New Professor. Five years removed from his self-titled solo release, Prekop joined together with the same core group of musicians to create an album that is intricate, subtle, and wholly engaging. With this new release, Prekop has pushed his talents to their fullest and succeeded in creating a new musical landscape for himself. Who's Your New Professor is a perfect exercise in forceful delicacy.

Prekop will be supporting Stereolab on most dates. Tour dates for both bands are below.

Stereolab is one of the greatest bands of all time, I wish the Sea and Cake was with them instead of just Sam, nonetheless it'll be great. And my compliments to jambase for showing off some indie bands, even though they don't have epic jams the albums are at the pinnacle of production thanks to John Mcentire, who by the way is producing Kaki King's next album, definitley something to look for this year.

I agree...I am a big Tortoise/Stereolab/Sea & Cake fan....though I love stuff like Phish, Herbie Hancock, Animal Liberation Orchestra the most I think some of the best music ever is anything that John McEntire gets his hands on. These influences are definitely apparent in the current project I am working on and I am glad to see these bands being promoted here. Peace, adam langolf

If you are in any these cities, go see this band!!! I caught the Fillmore show this past weekend and it was phenomenal. Easily a top ten show now that it's over. Wish I could see another of these shows before they go back to Europe. We might not see them here again for awhile (at least I hope not).
