As reported by Jonathan Cohen at Billboard.com, it appears that Billy Corgan is working to revive his band the Smashing Pumpkins. Sources have reported that the band has signed a new management deal with Jarad and Paul Geary at Front Line Management.
While there is no official word coming from the Pumpkins/Corgan camp, it appears that Corgan and Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin will begin work on a new studio album, the first under the group name since the original Pumpkins' 2000 swan song, MACHINA/the machines of god.
It is understood that original members James Iha (guitar) and D'arcy Wretzky (bass) are not participating in the reunion, but sources say multi-instrumentalist Billy Mohler will be involved.
The Smashing Pumpkins are expected to hit the road this year, although the rumored appearance at the Coachella in late April will not happen.
As previously reported, Corgan shocked fans last June when he took out a full-page ad in the Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times announcing his intentions to "renew and "revive" the Pumpkins.
Stay tuned for developments.
